📢 Call for Papers | Journal of Management Studies Special Issue

Truth and Organizations in the Age of Polarization

📅 Submission deadline: 3 May 2027

What happens when shared understandings of truth become increasingly contested? How do organizations build credibility, maintain legitimacy, and navigate competing claims in an era shaped by political polarization, AI, algorithmic influence, and information uncertainty?

This Special Issue of the Journal of Management Studies invites theoretically grounded research examining how truth is perceived, challenged, negotiated, and made consequential in and around organizations.

We welcome submissions that explore questions such as:

🔹 How organizations establish and defend credibility and authority
🔹 How stakeholders decide what information to trust and believe
🔹 How AI, algorithms, and digital platforms shape perceptions of truth
🔹 How organizations navigate competing truths across polarized environments
🔹 How truth claims influence legitimacy, transparency, leadership, and organizational change

The Special Issue welcomes conceptual, qualitative, quantitative, mixed-method, computational, and methodological contributions that place truth at the centre of organizational theorizing.

📢 New Paper Alert: Fly Solo, Then Return Home? Offspring’s Entrepreneurship Experience and their Future As Family Business Successors

This paper examines parent-child successions involving 8,274 potential successors in Sweden between 2001 and 2019. The study finds that entrepreneurship experience can increase the likelihood of succession, while also showing how opportunity costs linked to the offspring’s venture and the family firm influence that effect.

📕 New JMS Insights Blog Post: Strategy and Acquisitions

In this new JMS Insights blog post, the authors show that acquisition success is not determined by following a universal integration playbook. Instead, effective integration depends on aligning post-acquisition decisions with the acquiring firm's strategic orientation. The study demonstrates that market-oriented firms tend to achieve stronger outcomes through greater functional integration and coordination, while entrepreneurial-oriented firms often benefit from preserving decision-making autonomy and using shared goals to create alignment. The findings highlight that successful acquisitions are shaped not only by selecting the right target, but also by choosing an integration approach that supports how the acquiring firm creates value.

📢 New Paper Alert | Signalling servant leadership: How followers interpret leader behaviours

Leadership signals matter. This paper develops a signalling perspective on servant leadership, explaining how followers interpret leader behaviours and come to view leaders as servant leaders.

The authors show that costly, observable leader behaviours can serve as credible signals of servant leadership, while follower characteristics and contextual factors shape how those signals are received and interpreted. The study offers new insights into the mechanisms through which servant leadership perceptions emerge and develop.

📕 New JMS Insights Blog Post | The Creativity through Constraints: Zooming in on the Micro-Moves that Drive Innovation in the Toughest Environments

Innovation is often portrayed as the product of abundant resources and ideal conditions. Yet some of the most impactful innovations emerge when teams face severe constraints. Drawing on research across 60 innovation projects serving Base-of-the-Pyramid markets in India and sub-Saharan Africa, this new JMS Insights Blog explores how innovators transform limitations into opportunities through a series of practical, repeatable actions.

The study highlights how teams respond differently to goal constraints and task constraints, and how successful innovators move flexibly between structured planning and creative improvisation as challenges evolve. The findings offer valuable lessons for organizations seeking to innovate under pressure, whether facing resource shortages, regulatory demands, affordability challenges, or shifting market conditions.
