🌿❤️ A VERY SPECIAL DAY FOR BURNHOPE ❤️🌿

Yesterday was a truly special day for our village as we officially opened the Burnhope Heritage Trail, with wonderful speeches from David Brockington and renowned local author Terry Deary.

But yesterday wasn’t just about looking back at Burnhope’s history — it was also about creating new history for future generations to remember.

🌿 THE BURNHOPE HERITAGE TRAIL

The Burnhope Heritage Trail has been created to help us discover, remember and celebrate the rich history of our village.

Along the trail, visitors can learn about the people, places, buildings, industries and stories that have helped shape Burnhope and the community we know today.

For many of us, these are stories that have been passed down through generations. For others, they are pieces of Burnhope’s history that may never have been known.

The trail brings those stories into the heart of our village, helping residents and visitors understand where we have come from and the people who helped make Burnhope what it is today.

❤️ It is about remembering our past, celebrating our present and preserving our heritage for the future.

A huge and heartfelt THANK YOU to David and Cindy Brockington for the incredible research, time, passion and hard work they have put into bringing this project to life.

What they have created is so much more than a series of information boards. They have helped preserve a part of Burnhope’s identity and given our village something truly precious — a way for our history to be seen, shared and remembered.

We are incredibly grateful. 👏❤️

🖊️ BURNHOPE RESIDENTS 2026

Yesterday we also unveiled our Burnhope Residents 2026 Signature Banner — a snapshot of the people who make up our village today.

One day, this too will become a piece of Burnhope’s history, showing future generations the names of the people who called Burnhope home in 2026.

A very special thank you to Anne Stewart, who led this wonderful project from the beginning, and to Karen Reynoldson, who has been a massive support and took responsibility for bringing the Burnhope Remembers banner together.

Behind this beautiful banner are months of dedication, patience and love from the wonderful ladies who hand-sewed the names, one by one.

To every lady who picked up a needle and thread and gave their time to this project — thank you. ❤️

Every name represents a person, a family and a story. The work you have put into creating this banner means those names will continue to be seen and remembered.

❤️ OUR HISTORY. OUR PEOPLE. OUR VILLAGE.

Yesterday brought together three very special things:

🌿 Our past — through the Burnhope Heritage Trail.
🖊️ Our present — through the Burnhope Residents 2026 Signature Banner.
🌺 Those we remember — through the Burnhope Remembers Banner.

Together, they tell the story of Burnhope — where we came from, who we are today and those who came before us.

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to making yesterday possible, and to everyone who came along to share such a memorable occasion with us.

Burnhope has a story to tell. Yesterday, we added another chapter. ❤️

The latest edition of The Burnhope Wheel is hot off the press, thanks to all the volunteers who will be delivering them in the village over the next few days. There are still a few streets that haven't been taken, so if you can deliver to any of the below addresses please let us know:
Fair View; Beech Grove; Greenwood Avenue; Holmlea; Braeside; Mount Pleasant and The Haven

What a smashing day for Burnhope as our banner was once more paraded at Durham Miners’ Gala. It’s been a few years since we were there as the banner needed restoration but following our own Burnhope Gala Centenary 1926-2026 it was time to come back.

And come back we did!

With the outstanding Newton Aycliffe Pipe Band leading us, everyone turned to look and there are photos of us all over the media!

A huge thank you to the amazing folk playing the pipes and drums - how you do that whilst marching and maintain that superb image is beyond me - top marks 👏

Well done Burnhope - we’re back!

🥁 This is who will be marching with the Burnhope Banner through Durham on Saturday! We are so lucky to have the amazing Newton Aycliffe Pipe Band with us. There’s so many of them!! What a sound!

Still time to come with us. Transport 8am from Burnhope and return at 4.30pm. Let us know if you want to bagsy a seat on the bus 😁

Following the fantastic success of the Burnhope Centenary Gala, we’re delighted that the Burnhope banner will once again be proudly paraded through Durham City Centre at the Durham Miners’ Gala on Saturday 11th July 2026, accompanied by the wonderful Newton Aycliffe Pipe Band.

A coach is being organised from Burnhope to Durham and back:

🚌 Departure: 8:00am
🚌 Return: 4:30pm

💷 Adults: £5
💷 Children: £2.50

The Burnhope Partnership

The Burnhope Partnership was established to bring together community groups and organisations within Burnhope Village, encouraging collaboration, sharing ideas and best practice, and keeping local people informed about community projects and events.

The Partnership is governed by a constitution, managed by an elected committee, and maintains a community bank account with Barclays. It provides financial oversight and support by holding community funds on behalf of various groups, helping to ensure transparency, accountability and good governance.

Over the years, the Partnership has supported numerous local organisations, including the Senior Citizens Group, Heritage Group, Burnhope Primary School, Burnhope Cricket Club, and local Children’s Homes. The most recent group to join the Partnership is the Burnhope Banner Group.

The Partnership meets monthly at Burnhope Community Centre.
