Durham parkrun

Durham parkrun FREE weekly 5km event for runners of all standards

Implemented by a small but dedicated group of enthusiastic volunteers from a variety of running backgrounds, Durham parkrun has been supported by local employer Allied Bakeries and Durham University, allowing us to deliver a high quality, safe, free weekly run/walk which encourages participation, volunteering and above all, physical activity regardless of age or background, bringing our local comm

unity together on a regular basis to enjoy a shared community space. The accessibility of parkrun is key - whether you are wanting to aim for a PB every week or simply complete the 5km course, all our runners and walkers come along safe in the knowledge they will be supported, encouraged and inspired to reach whatever goals they set.

Wow! What a very busy morning, so busy in fact I forgot to take any photos πŸ™„. A huge shout out to our regular volunteers and a fantastic turn out from Durham City Harriers.
630 of you participated in today’s event and we hope you enjoyed your run. The results are processing and should be with you soon.
Enjoy the rest of you weekend πŸ˜€

We have a full Roster, the weather looks dry ( don’t hold me to that), what more do we need other than our lovely participants. We will do the usual course check in the morning but all is looking good.
See you at 9am for a prompt startπŸ˜€

Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday Durham City Harriers & Athletics Club!

We currently have pacers ranging from 18-35 minutes so fingers crossed for some new PBs this weekend!

Are you heading to Durham parkrun this Saturday? πŸ‘Ÿ

We’ll see you there. You’ll find us pacing runners, marshalling the course and cheering you over the finish line.

Spot us in our orange vests, come and say hello, grab a slice of cake and look out for a little treat from the club (all will be revealed on the day) 🧑

Whether you’re a regular or thinking about giving parkrun a try, we’d love to see you there.

Next weekend - Saturday 6th June - Chase a Pacer - with Durham City Harriers & Athletics Club

There will be help at hand next week if you have a specific time you'd love to hit at Durham parkrun.

Durham City Harriers, the local running club that runs in orange 🟠 are turning out to help with pacing. They will line up before the event with bibs on like those shown in the photo below.

Example of how it works - If you have always wanted to sneak under 35 minutes (say) then pick out the runner wearing the vest with '35' on and that friendly person will pace you to a 35 minute parkrun!
..well that's the theory anyway. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

More updates on Facebook on this during next week to confirm which pacing times will be set.

(and members of DCH, there are still a few vests available - so message Mitch Marshall early who is coordinating the list of pacers to bag the pacer vest that you are comfortable wearing)

Beautiful weather for our parkrun this morning. 576 finishers and a fantastic set of 30 lovely volunteers. Results now on the website.

Nice to welcome 54 first time visitors and congrats to the 62 of you that got course PBs on what was a very hot morning.

Shout outs to the milestone runners Aidan (50), Jess (100), Ken (350), Marek (500) and Trevor (500).

Also a round of applause to the '5k your way' runners - Durham 5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Hope everyone enjoyed the run and has a lovely weekend.

Feel free to share any photos from this morning in the comments.

πŸ™ VOLUNTEERS NEEDED πŸ™
Hello all, we're a little short of volunteers for tomorrow. Can you email [email protected] if you can help please?

- 2 or 3 marshals needed
- 3 or 4 barcode scanners

If you are one of the speedy runners (say sub-22 mins) you can run and then scan if you bring your phone along - it's fun πŸ˜€

Latest updates will appear on link below as all you lovely people email in: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/durham/futureroster/

Thank you,

Stephen - tomorrow's Run Director

Another big event yesterday with 627 finishers and 28 volunteers! Thanks to all who participated and supported the event. There may be one or two issues with the results – it looks like a couple of finishers ducked out of the funnel without taking a token. I've done my best to line things up; if you spot any egregious errors, drop a line to [email protected].

We were joined yesterday by "Rahul the Owl", who is running 100 parkruns in support of Breast Cancer Now. You can support him via https://justgiving.com/page/rahul-vashisht23

There are plenty of opportunities to be involved next week – whether you are a new volunteer or a regular, reserve your space on the roster now with an e-mail to [email protected]
https://www.parkrun.org.uk/durham/futureroster/

Here is the volunteer roster for the next few weeks. If you'd like to volunteer at a future event please email [email protected]. To find out more, visit the volunteer page.

Can you help us run another fantastic event tomorrow?

We are short of volunteers to help with finish tokens, timekeeping and barcode scanning.

If you can help, e-mail [email protected], or send us a facebook message.

Faster runners who could scan some barcodes or help with finish tokens after they finish would be welcome too!

In trying to cover everything in the briefing this morning, I completely forgot to thank our volunteers 😱 We had a number of people doing new roles or volunteering for the first time and they all did an amazing job - thank you all! Here are some pics of the volunteer crew at the finish (not forgetting the marshals, pacers, parkwalkers and tail walkers out in the course and those who help before the event).

It really warmed up after a chilly start, so I hope everyone enjoyed the event today. The results are processed and emails/texts should be with you shortly.

The funnel team did a brilliant job of handling the 587 finishers but despite even their best efforts - and my instructions in the briefing - at least 3 people managed to leave the funnel without taking a token. It's impossible to tell exactly where this happened and fix the results, so I'm sorry if your time doesn't quite match what you're expecting.

If you cross the line, you have to take a token otherwise you spoil the results for the people behind you. This is one reason why it's important to listen to the briefing, and allow other people to hear it by not continuing your own conversations.

Rant over. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
