As Visit County Durham celebrates its 20th anniversary, the team is marking the milestone by giving back to the communities, organisations and places that make County Durham such a special place to visit, work and live. In the first of a series of volunteering events, the team joined Durham Wildlife Trust on a coastal litter pick, which is vital to protecting this important habitat.

Following on from Monday's Welcome to Durham training course, a further number of staff and Volunteers from Ushaw Historic House, Chapels & Gardens attended the training earlier today.
The session was delivered by Lucy Wearne from Visit County Durham and Jan Williams, Blue Badge Guide.
Focussing upon customer service skills for the hospitality industry, the session also provide an overview of the tourism product the county has to offer. These practical and immediately usable skills make the difference between a visitor being satisfied, and a visitor being made to feel special.
Almost 400 staff in visitor facing roles have attended the training to date, helping to shape the high quality offer Durham has to offer.

Have your say on the future of Barnard Castle!

Plans are being developed to conserve important heritage assets, improve access to Barnard Castle and create a new Heritage Gateway at 28 Market Place. The project could bring a vacant Grade II listed building back into use, enhance the visitor experience and create new opportunities for learning, volunteering and community events.

Visit County Durham recently welcomed French travel content creators Louise Ebel to Durham as part of a wider journey exploring the legacy of William the Conqueror and the Norman Conquest.
Following visits to historic landmarks in London, Lincoln and York, the itinerary brought Louise to Durham to discover the remarkable history of Durham Castle and Durham Cathedral.
From a guided tour of the castle to climbing the cathedral tower, the visit showcased Durham’s internationally significant heritage, striking architecture and unique place in the story of England.
With the millennium of William the Conqueror providing a compelling reason to explore England’s Norman heritage, the visit offered an opportunity to highlight County Durham to an international audience and inspire future visits.

Tourism and hospitality businesses across Weardale are invited to join the Discover Weardale Visitor Network (WVN), helping to strengthen and promote the area's visitor economy. For just £35 per year, members can advertise on the Discover Weardale website, promote events through the network's page, attend monthly meetings with fellow businesses and tourism partners, and support initiatives that raise Weardale's profile as a visitor destination.
Membership is open to accommodation providers, attractions, cafés, pubs, retailers and more.
