BMFA North Eastern Area A place for notices from the BMFA North Eastern Area

Copied from Shildon Model Club FB page.
It is with great sadness that I informed the members at the club meeting last Friday of the passing of Allan Weighell.
Allan was one of the club founders he was a life member.
He was club treasurer for over 20 years and ran the indoor for many years for our club and others like Guisborough club which he was also very active with.
Allan was a BMFA world championship team manager and on the technical committee for the world team.
His work also saw him manage the world's youth team and he also ran many schools training events with his close friends and co members Tom Maddison and Stuart shorthouse both who have also passed away.

Fly-in was held 13th 14th June at TMFC Redmarshal with swap meet , Saturday was windy Sunday was a much better day, Flying was undertaken both days.
Twenty one units camped over the weekend ,twenty five pilots flew.
About 90-100 people attended and we had some spectator's who had picked it up from Facebook.
As a result of the weekend we have gained two members and have other interested
party's

So Friday we opened the gates for the campers and the weather was not good, very windy and Saturday just the same and the brave did fly.
The brilliant lads from the Copeland model club always put on a great show, some
crazy flying boys.
In the evening a young lad Martin Breen was flying his little foam Hellcat in a gale with amazing skill.
The campsite was full on Saturday and the turn out of pilots from many clubs, we have to thank members of the Copeland club, Guisborough model club, Scarborough club, Boldon club and also our club members that came and supported the event.

Sunday the weather gods were with us and a really full flying program. Our flight line director George Evans controlled the flying without any issues apart when we had to change the flight line due to a wind direction change.

It was good to see the number of pilots that were talking to one another and with some brilliant flying it just shows what a great weekend it was.
We hope to repeat the event next year.

ALBEMARLE .
At the February Area meeting it was decided not to renew our license with Albemarle Barracks for the forthcoming year. This is purely down to economics as we would have seen the license fee increase by 300% over the next 2 years to approximately £2400 per year.
This is coupled with our declining use of the facility and the financial constraints of the Area.
Albemarle barracks has been used by the Area and the BMFA for model flying for many years and as a central meeting point for like minded modellers, holding the Power Nationals in the 1960s, Geordie Nationals in the 1990s and various other 'Centralised' National competitions.
