Today weโ€™re sharing Aliโ€™s story to show a powerful example of how partnerships can create lasting impact, not just for the organisations and communities supported, but for the individuals who take part. ๐Ÿ’š

Through the John Lewis Partnership Foundation Golden Jubilee Foundation Trust, Ali Watkins chose to use her skills to support Waythrough through a work secondment.

โ˜€๏ธ is not usually serious if you spot the signs and take action to cool the person down within thirty minutes.
Here's how to look after yourself or someone else if they're displaying heat exhaustion. ๐Ÿ‘‡
โ„๏ธ Move them to a cool place
๐Ÿ› Get them to lie down and raise their feet slightly
๐Ÿšฐ Get them to drink plenty of water
๐Ÿ˜Œ Fan them
๐Ÿ’ฆ Spray/sponge them with water
โ€ผ๏ธIf heat exhaustion turns into heatstroke, it needs to be treated as an emergency.
๐Ÿ“ž You must call 999 if someone isnโ€™t cooling down and you think they might have heatstroke.

We had a fantastic week during Volunteers Week last week. We held in person get togethers and celebrations across the country, we hosted our first ever Waythrough Volunteer Awards and had two Employer Supported Volunteering Events.

Our Head of Volunteering, Ann Denton, travelled to all the events and summed up the week's events for us:

โ€œWhat a week. We started with a relaxed afternoon of cake and activities in Devon, then up to Durham on Tuesday for a great quiz and lunch, back down to London Wednesday for a huge turnout of volunteers and staff, all behind the power of volunteering. Thursday, we spent time with people in the North-West, in the lovely welcoming Windsor Road and ended the week in Leeds, joined by volunteers and staff from Leeds and Barnsley.

โ€œOne thing that was clear, was that people absolutely live our values of kindness courage and respect. All three were present in abundance at every event.

"The Volunteering team did a fantastic job of enabling connection amongst people, there was lots of laughter, hugs and teary eyes.

โ€œ2026 was a Volunteers Week to remember.โ€

In addition to the in-person celebrations, we held our first ever Waythrough Volunteer Awards Ceremony during Volunteers Week to celebrate and thank our volunteers and shine a light on the amazing things that they do.

The online event was a great success. It was wonderful to see so many people coming together to support and recognise our volunteers, and we were so proud to be able to share the nominations which really highlighted how wonderful our volunteers are and the impact that they have.

Thank you to everyone who supported our volunteers and got involved in the events and celebrations, and most importantly thank you to our wonderful volunteers!

Aimee Wilson, a member of our Lived Experience Counsil has shared some helpful tips that she uses every Pride Month when creating content to celebrate Pride. ๐ŸŒˆ

Thank you, Aimee, for sharing these insights and your experience supporting with the social media at Newcastle Pride in 2018! โœจ

We think these are great tips that can not only be applied to creating social media content but also be applied to everyday communications surrounding Pride and the LGBTQ+ community. ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€โšง๏ธ
