After the voting among 46 elected representatives in the Durham Students’ Union Assembly (ER140) on 25th February 2016, we would like to proudly announce the establishment of Durham University Hong Kong Public Affairs and Social Service Society (DUHKPASS). Durham University Hong Kong Public Affairs and Social Service Society (DUHKPASS) is a student-run, non-profit making organisation which strives
to promote awareness in Hong Kong related social issues and acts as a platform for the exchange of ideas on public issues in both Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. We act as a platform for cohesion between students who show an appreciation for our values. Through our balanced combination of social, academic, career and public affairs events, we enable members to obtain a well-rounded university education. Whilst striving to provide our members with the best possible student experience, we are fully aware of the need to give back to our wider community both in the UK and in Hong Kong. In light of the vehement political dynamics lately, together with a large target group consisting of 340+ Hong Kong students currently studying at Durham University and 1230+ alumni in Hong Kong, it would be conducive to students for the differentiation of Durham University Hong Kong Public Affairs and Social Service Society (DUHKPASS) from Durham University Hong Kong Society (DUHKS), owing to the different natures and aims of two societies. Upon the establishment of Durham University Hong Kong Public Affairs and Social Service Society (DUHKPASS), the two societies serving Hong Kong students will have more focused resources to grapple with different aspects of needs. Yours faithfully,
Desmond Ho and Christopher Yiu
Co-founders of DUHKPASS
