We had the honour of hosting the Moor Group 2025 meeting last night, starting in the 1950s cinema with a talk from Connor, curator of social history, and then moving to our Welfare Hall. We enjoyed a homemade buffet, photo opportunities, 1950s memorabilia competition and a raffle, before the entertainer of the evening - the Moor Group Players! Five brave volunteers donned 50s costume and performed a farcical play called "Jam Before Scandal"! It was a wonderful evening and we thoroughly enjoyed welcoming everyone to the museum. A great meeting last night with the team from Guide Dogs UK - Helen, Ian, Jenna and of course the star of the show, Diamond, who was off duty so just napped in the evening sunshine coming through the windows of the welfare hall 😀

Another great visit from one of our favourite speakers (and honorary member of Beamish WI!), Dan Nesbit, who gave us an update on his bird ringing adventures, accompanied by his incredible up close photos. We ended the night making vintage tea cup bird feeders for our own garden birds 😊

What an amazing day at Beamish Museum for the launch of the exhibition celebrating 110 years of the Women's Institute! To be surrounded by so many incredible women, their stories and their legacy, was inspiring and empowering. Here's to women everywhere on !

We had a wonderful meeting last night with Annie Doyle - Author who drew us into the world of the Cocoa Girls and took us back in time to riverside factories, music halls and the Titanic. Her stories were a great way to spend a cold February evening!

As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, we’ve teamed up with Beamish Museum in County Durham to launch an Exhibition showcasing the campaigning and craft materials used by WI members over the last 110 years. As the largest women’s organisation in the UK, WI banners, posters, and ‘craftivist’ items will be on display to highlight the WIs remarkable history of achieving positive change for women and society for over a century.

Happy 10th Birthday to us! We spent a fantastic evening with afternoon teas provided by Edinburgh Bakery, the lovely Kathryn as our advisor, brilliant entertainment from the "Stick it up your jumper" team and of course, cake! As 10th anniversaries are represented by tin, every member received a commemorative tin mug, and our raffle prizes were all tins 😊 Here's to our next decade 🎂🎉🥳💜💚
