Very proud to support The Hub @ St Nics and the vital safeguarding and support service it provides to people using the city centre at night.
We are happy to announce that the Hub @ St Nic’s is extending its service to support new and returning Durham University students.
The Hub, which has helped thousands of people, and is usually open every weekend in Durham City at nights between 9pm and 3am, will also be open every Wednesday during the first academic term.
The move is designed to support new and returning students as they enjoy the city’s vibrant nightlife.
Delivered by us, with support from Durham BID, Durham Police and Crime Commissioner, City of Durham Parish Council , Durham University, Shakespeare Temperance Trust and Durham City Freeman, the Hub provides a visible and reassuring presence during the academic year.
Staff at the Hub, which operates from St Nicholas’s Church in the Market Place, are there to offer a helping hand to those in need on a night out, providing hot drinks, snacks, water, blankets and, where needed, substitutes for lost footwear.
Owen Cleugh, Durham County Council’s safer places manager, said: “The Hub @ St Nic’s plays a vital role in supporting those enjoying Durham’s night-time economy. Its presence is especially important when many students are new to the city and may be unfamiliar with their surroundings.
“The Hub offers reassurance, support, and a safe space when it’s needed most. It forms part of a wider commitment from us and our partners to ensure the city remains a safe and welcoming place for all.”
