Friday meet-up at the community cafe, 2pm

Hi folks,
This is to confirm that we'll be having the first get-together for this group on Friday, the 7th, at the community cafe in Dunvegan. I'm looking forward to seeing you there.

I also wanted to say a big thank you to Anne MacAskill and the Dunvegan Castle Gardening team for donating their lovely snowdrops to the Playpark, which we've planted up this weekend.

Finally, I thought I'd share the 'what's on' section from this month's Skye Climate Action Newsletter in case any of the events interest the members of this group.

Hi everyone,

I'd love to get our green group going again to coordinate environmental projects in and around Dunvegan. The ‘Grow Dunvegan’ team has kindly allowed me to use their page for communications, as it already has many green-fingered and eco-minded individuals.

If there is an appetite, I can arrange a monthly meet-up at the community café on the first Friday of each month at 2 PM. This will be an informal gathering for anyone interested in getting involved. No commitments are required, but if you’d like to volunteer or propose a project, please come along!

Here are some activities that have been suggested that we might focus on:
• Maintaining the car park seed station
• Caring for local green spaces
• Beach Cleans and marine litter recycling
• Native tree/ hedge planting
• Creating wildlife corridors
• Establishing a community growing space/allotment/polytunnel
• Inviting occasional speakers to learn more about various topics that affect us, such as whale and dolphin protection, seagrass, coastal erosion, and peatlands.
• Establishing a community nature/wildlife garden and pond
• Planting native wildflower verges that are bee- and butterfly-friendly
• Promoting wildlife-friendly practices, such as "No Mow May"

I’m trying to get an idea of whether folk would be interested in this, so please like this post if you would be interested in joining. If I get more than 5 people, I’ll arrange the first meet-up for Friday, March 7th, at 2PM.

All the best,
Katy

Do you have snowdrops in your garden?

You may have noticed that our new park is almost ready for use. There is a bank that could use flowers by the trees near the road.

Now is a great time to split your snowdrops, so if you have any and are willing to donate some to the park, we'd really appreciate it. You can plant them yourself or bring them to the park opening on March 15th.

Many thanks 🌱
