A message from the Higgs family.
Alan Higgs ❤️ 13/01/1935 – 24/10/2026
We are very sorry to share the sad news that the wonderful Alan Higgs passed away this weekend.
Many of you will know him from this page, of course, but also locally, as he was often out and about, getting involved in just about anything he could!
His zest for life knew no bounds. He had slowed down a little in recent years, but at his peak, he could be seen not just roller skating down Toddington High Street, but hula hooping at the same time!
We've already received so many lovely messages, with words such as "legend", "inspiration" and "unique" being used to describe him. And he really was all of those things.
He didn't like a fuss, really. He just had a wonderful, go-getting attitude to life and was always up for giving something a go! He loved his walking group and playing pool. In fact, at the age of 90, he even became a TikTok star, with a video of him playing pool in the club reaching over 8 million views!
He played the drums and harmonica and loved jazz music. 🎶 He played tennis and ping pong, and only retired from Jazzercise in his 80s! He also loved growing his veg.
And, of course, he absolutely loved researching and writing about the history of Toddington. He put together many books on the subject and took enormous pleasure in piecing together archives of photographs, local people and village life.
Oh, and he could paint too, in many different forms, and even completed a fine art degree in his 60s!
If he were here now, he wouldn't want us to be sad. He'd want us all to get out there, give things a go and make the very most of life, just as he did. He really was one-of-a-kind.
Lots of love from all his family ♥️
