The club will explore our roles within the web of life, how we can negotiate change within self, community and the world at large, to become aware of the capacity to co-create a world in which all life can thrive outside of the Industrial Growth Society.

as we move closer to autumn and as this book club evolves, I thought that I would share where I am at with the Web of Life Book Club.

whilst physical meetings are paused indefinitely I will continue to read through the list of books that I brought together at the start of 2026.

as I read them I will share quotes from moments that spark something inside of me.
it is my hope that you will join me from the comfort of your own favourite chair as we read through the seasons.

so grab a book, this month it is Beyond Happy by Mark Fabian, a steaming hot cuppa and get cooried in ###

hello there! as i start my book for September I am reminded of the reasons why I chose to include this book on my list.

I first came across Mark Fabian talking about his book Beyond Happy whilst listening to an interview on the Accidental Gods podcast with Manda Scott

Here is the link to that interview on YouTube...

I will pop in this month to share some of my favourite quotes from the book as I go. Hopefully it may inspire you to join me as I read through my list. As we feel the seasons turn it becomes easier perhaps to coorie in with a good cuppa and book.

We actually talked about an artist/poet that in our last book had his blood and other fluids regularly tested for toxins as part of a project. The results, like Martin’s were quite alarming. What lies inside of us can be a story of our thoughtless and dangerous treatment of the world in which we live.

Hello there. I just wanted to let you know that there will be no further meetings of the book club. I am stepping away for a breath and seeing where things fall.

I will keep this page open for now as you can still read books from the list and have the opportunity to share your experiences here.

Thank you and I hope that this club cultivated a connection to Gaia and ways that we can work in reciprocity with her.

For our next book πŸ„β€πŸŸ«

"Far too many people seem intent on destroying this precious planet. Whether it’s through ignorance or greed or both, one thing is clear: they don’t understand how it works. Even those of us who want to protect Earth and the life it supports don’t fully comprehend its marvels."

A reminder that the July book club will not be on this Thursday. Our next meeting will be on the last Thursday of August.

I am reading our book for July just now and came to this;

"As Red River Metis scholar Zoe Todd puts it, we can't simply 'add a dash of native knowledge to current approaches and call it reciprocity'. The individualism and false objectivity of Western culture must make way for the irreducible interconnectedness that is the foundation of indigenous world views."
Nature's Genius, Evolution's Lessons for a Changing Planet by David Farrier, Page 226.

We must feel our connectedness, deeply and profoundly. We cannot skim the surface and pick out the funky, fun bits, but rather immerse wholeheartedly into the immense wisdom of our land-based wisdom keepers and act. There needs to be a wholesale shift in world views and we need to come together as community.

I would highly recommend picking up a copy from our local indie bookshop Bookpoint Dunoon

The July book club will not be on but we hope to be back in August with a new book chosen to replace Empire of AI.

In full disclosure, after reading Nexus and screening the People’s Emergency Briefing film within the same few weeks I was fried!! πŸ€ͺI knew I couldn’t face another book on AI even if it is highly relevant for our wee peninsula.

So apologies for the change.

Our new book for August is Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake.

If you would like to join us please message me here and I can give you details of where and when as this may be more flexible and varied in the future….

"Entangled Life is a mercurial, revelatory, impassioned, urgent, astounding, and necessary read. It’s fearless in scope, analytically astute, and brimming with infectious joy." β€” Helen Macdonald
