The Brownies this week were working on their Imagination interest badge by junk modeling and using recyclable materials to create imaginary or real animals who live under the sea. They used tubs, cardboard, yoghurt pots, paper tubes and anything else we could rustle up to bring their imaginations to life. They all did a fantastic job and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it - leaders included ๐Ÿ˜‰. Who doesn't love a wee craft night!

Summer is almost here ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŒž.
Meetings for all groups, Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers will take a break over the summer. We will finish up a few weeks before the end of the school term. Due to this we are currently not taking any new starts but notes of interest can still be registered on the Girlguiding website and you will be contacted in the Autumn when we re-start.

Our Brownies started the 2026 'Out and About' challenge this week to work towards their 'Once Upon a Scotland' badge ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ. They will be completing different activities in the coming weeks to explore Scotlands myths, history and legends.
We started by discussing what different things Scotland is known for and then everyone individually created their own tartans before we combined them to make our very own stunning Brownie tartan to display in the hall ๐Ÿ˜

Our Rainbow unit have recently been working towards a UMA badge by completing different activities. They learned about some 'sports of the past' and then played Skipping, Croquet and Ten Pin Bowling in our outdoor area in the evening sunshine โ˜€๏ธ. They have also been learning about what lives under the sea as part of their badge and have been playing the Coral Reef City game. As part of the game they have been learning about the different day and night animals who live in a coral reef. They 'swim' around imitating the actions of the fish who live there such as Parrotfish, Angelfish, Butterflyfish, Whitetip Reef Sharks and Squirrelfish and try to guess who is being which fish ๐Ÿฆˆ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŸ

Lastly, the Brownies earnt their Height activity badge by taking part in the 'All aboard' activity. The girls were fitted with harnesses and tackled climbing the pole and stand on the top platform. Lots of fears were faced and lots of cheerleading and encouragement could be heard as the girls supported each other ๐Ÿ’ช. This one was a tough one but very rewarding for everyone to see how much they could challenge themselves.

We can not thank the Lochgoilhead Scout Centre staff enough. From the supportive and encouraging instructors, the chef who kept us very well fed to all the other staff members we came across - they were all fantastic!
As I said before, we will definitely be back!

Whilst staying at Lochgoilhead Scout Centre our Brownie unit got to earn their Water activity badge by canoeing and taking a boat trip on the picturesque Loch Goil. The girls worked together to row their canoes across the Loch and down a short river and then practised their water legs by standing up and switching seats with each other as part of a game. During the boat trip on the rib each girl got a chance to steer and direct the boat across the Loch - their were many doughnuts performed in the water whilst they were in control ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Our Brownies took part in a Bush Skills activity whilst in Lochgoilhead Scout Centre where they learnt how to build shelters using trees and branches. They then worked together to chop up pieces of dry wood into thin stips before having the opportunity to use a Ferro Rod (a modern alternative to Flint & Steel) to start a small fire using cotton wool. As a reward for all their hardwork they used their new skills to create a fire in a Kelly Kettle and mix up some tasty Hot Chocolate ๐Ÿ˜‹

Recently our Brownie unit went on a 2 night residential to the Lochgoilhead Scout Centre. We enjoyed a range of activities with some of their instructors including a ramble through the arboretum and along the river bank to learn about different trees and plants. The staff were brilliant and looked after us all very well. We will definitely be returning!

Today on, April 22nd we celebrated Earth Day 2026 across our units as part of working towards our Eco Award. We collected and repurposed plastic bottles by decorating them and turning them into planters for Spider plant cuttings. We also made some natural bird feeders using seed and lard to support the local wildlife ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿชน๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿชด
