Today, cadets from 2296 Dunoon Squadron attended Gourock Highland Games (alongside 49F Greenock Squadron) where they helped to promote the squadron and raise awareness of the Air Cadet organisation. For some, this was their first attendance at an Air Cadets event and all did really well, getting stuck in and inspiring potential recruits to join.

2296 Squadron are currently taking enquiries from prospective cadets. Our next intake will likely be around the start of August.

Since reopening, 2296 Squadron has received generous support from the following businesses and clubs within the local area:

Dunoon and District Clay Target Club
This fantastic club (which Cpl Brown regularly attends), kindly provided a monetary charity donation. This has allowed us to buy learning resources for the squadron.
The club has a wealth of experience between their members and are always welcoming to those showing an interest in the art of Clay Target Shooting.

Western Ferries
We would like to thank Western Ferries for their generous donation of ferry tickets, supporting cadets from 2296 Squadron with travel 'over the water' to events.

Thank you, your support is very much appreciated πŸ™‚

This afternoon, our cadets took on the STEM challenge of designing and building a rollercoaster. Two teams used cardboard to create their tracks and then tested their builds using a marble (with varying levels of success!)

Crucially though, STEM learning is often about the process, and not necessarily the end result....this activity allowed our cadets to build valuable skills in problem solving, design, time keeping, critical thinking, negotiation, resilience and teamwork.

I think it's safe to say that a competitive spirit made an appearance and there were a lot of laughs in the process! Great effort everyone, that was a lot of fun πŸ™‚

What a fantastic afternoon...our Junior cadets started to cover History of Flight and also completed a drill assessment. Cdt M Eche passed his allocated exams achieving the classification of Leading Cadet. Cdt C Eche reviewed the modules on offer from the Senior Cadet syllabus, and decided on a plan of action going forward. As part of his Master training, Cpl Brown passed his assessment for Military Aircraft. Well done everyone!

Today, our cadets completed their Basic Radio Comms training led by CI Bissett (and supported by Sgt Cameron) from 49F Greenock Squadron.

This was an informative session, with a mix of PowerPoint learning and practical application, allowing cadets to familiarise themselves with the radio systems and terminology used during communications. We also managed to fit in some drill practice. Well done everyone πŸ™‚

As well as attending 2296 Dunoon Squadron, Cadet Brown also attends 49F Greenock Squadron (which he has been part of for the last 2 years). In recent months, he has been a great support to 2296, helping to get the squadron up and running again....cleaning, tidying, organising and developing our media presence.

Last night, at the 49F Greenock Squadron Dine In, he was promoted to Corporal and also achieved awards for Best Shot (for obtaining his bronze shooting badge) and Most Improved Cadet.

Well done Corporal Brown πŸ™‚

Another great afternoon spent at 2296, where cadets were instructed in Essential First Aid.

This training was taught by Flt Lt Nicholls of 49F Greenock Sqn (who travelled over to sunny Dunoon to support 2296, along with Sqn Ldr Herd). Lots of information for our cadets to take on board, as well as practice in practical application. I think our cadets may have achy arms tonight after CPR!

Well done everyone πŸ™‚

Another productive afternoon at 2296 SqnπŸ™‚

Today we covered some mandatory training (heat and cold injury prevention), uniform prep, the phonetic alphabet and also continued with drill.

We certainly can't fault the enthusiasm of our new cadets and it is great to see progress is being made with the basics of drill. Well done everyone, great effort!
