Just wondering if you knew of anyone/ organisations locally that may be interested in finding out more. I’m happy to provide more information. Please feel free to share with anyone you think may be interested.

I’ve just started a new post with ABC council, working on a programme called Walking for All. We’re aiming to support people in rural communities to get more active by providing free walk leader training and support to those interested in setting up a regular walking groups.

Walking for All is a new 3-year programme funded by SEUPB PEACEPLUS which aims to create healthier communities by encouraging participation in walking through organised, volunteer-led walks. These short walks, guided by trained volunteers, will be held in local community spaces and will also aim to bring diverse communities together, fostering acceptance and respect for differences and/ or combating isolation and loneliness.

We’re on the lookout for volunteers and communities who think they could benefit from getting involved. We offer free Walk Leader training and support to those that are interested in setting up a walking group in their community. It could be a small group of people getting together for a short walk and a cup of tea at the end, a midweek walk around the GAA pitch or a group of parents that want to walk together after the school drop off. Walk leaders will have the freedom to make it their own.

Hope this email finds you well. As you are aware Maghery Country Park road surface is deteriorating, with potholes and erosion affecting visitor experience and raising safety concerns. Capital money has been secured to resurface and upgrade the road including, safety features, signage, and the car parks relined.

The resurfacing works will enhance Maghery Country Park and is due to start on Wednesday 11 March, lasting for approximately two weeks. To carry out the works the park will be closed to the public and all users for the duration of the resurfacing works.

Information will be shared via Council social media.
