Our Story
We are a member group of the Riding for the Disabled Association. Our aim, in simple terms, is to provide the opportunity of riding to people with a range of physical and learning disabilities, who might benefit in their general health and wellbeing.
Shiresmill Therapy Riding Centre is based at Shiresmill, by Blairhall, approximately 8 miles from Dunfermline.
The custom–built centre, which was opened by HRH The Princess Royal on 4 September, 1996, consists of a cabin (used by our riders and helpers), an indoor arena, an outdoor arena and recently a brand new warm room! There are paddocks and grazing fields for the 7 ponies owned by the Group.
The Group is run entirely by volunteers who give a great deal of their time to help our riders and take care of our ponies. Each riding session needs several volunteers to assist the riders – and the more helpers we have, the more riders we can cater for!
Our volunteers also give their time to do maintenance work at the Centre, in addition to the many and varied fundraising activities undertaken throughout the year such as Christmas with the Ponies and Fundays!
