The countdown is on! Who’s getting excited for camp?

Here are just a few of the key kit items to start thinking about as you get packed and ready for your legendary Lochgoilhead adventure.

⚠️ Important: This is just a snapshot of some useful kit essentials, NOT the full kit list! Please check the full list sent out to all participants so nothing important gets left behind.

Our top tip? Pack plenty of spare clothing! The weather can be unpredictable in Argyll, so check the forecast before you pack and plan accordingly. It’s always better to have extra layers and dry clothes ready.

🌿 Introducing the new Scottish Network Thistle Award!

Created by a Networker, for Networkers, this new award celebrates what makes Scouting in Scotland special, giving Network members the flexibility to shape their own journey, take on new challenges and make the most of the experiences that matter to them.

💬 Amy Harvey, Lead for Network, shares the inspiration behind the award:

“As a Networker myself, I wanted to create something specifically for people our age that celebrates what makes Scouting in Scotland special. The Thistle Award has been created by a Networker, for Networkers, and I think that’s really important.

I wanted it to feel achievable, flexible and relevant to what Network members actually want to do — whether that’s climbing a Munro, getting involved in their community, exploring Scottish culture, attending an international event or taking the lead on something within Network.

It was also really important that it complemented the programme that already exists rather than competing with it. Networkers can use experiences they are already having, link parts of the award with their King’s Scout Award and shape their own Thistle journey around the opportunities that interest them.”

👏🌈 We’re thrilled to announce that Zac Brownlow has been appointed as the new Lead for LGBTQIA+ within the Inclusion Team at Scouts Scotland!

Zac has a long history of advocating for the values of scouting and inclusion at home and abroad. He believes that scouting functions as a safe space for both young people and volunteers to be accepted and valued. This role will allow Zac to support volunteers who are navigating identity, development and inclusion within scouting while facilitating events for young people to ensure that scouting truly is a Place to Belong.

Through Zac’s scouting career, he has helped facilitate pride events across Scotland, and advocated for inclusion internationally, holding roles at various international jamborees and camps. Zac has helped to organise a variety of challenging and engaging events that appeal to all sections, such as his work helping to facilitate Pride celebrations at the Blair Atholl Jamborette or his work this summer organising engaging and challenging events abroad. He is excited to create novel and exciting opportunities for LGBTQIA+ advocacy through facilitating events in this role.

🏆 Celebrating adventure, teamwork and achievement at the Mark Muir Challenge!

29 Explorers from six Greenock & District units headed to the Isle of Bute for a weekend that put their outdoor skills, resilience and teamwork to the test.

From navigating unfamiliar terrain in the dark and tackling a 10-mile trek to a surprise water challenge and a midnight search and rescue exercise, participants embraced every challenge thrown their way.

🎉 Congratulations to Terranova Explorer Scout Unit, who claimed the overall win for the first time! A fantastic achievement and a testament to the teamwork and determination shown throughout the weekend.

Special recognition also goes to Gary McEachran and Andy MacDougall, who received the Award for Merit in recognition of their dedication and contributions to providing opportunities for young people in Scouting during the challenge weekend.

Experiences like these help young people build confidence, develop essential skills and discover what they can achieve together.

🌍 From Shetland to South Africa!

This summer, Sarah Maguire, Explorer Leader for Hjatltland Explorer Unit in Lerwick, Shetland, travelled to Johannesburg for the 2nd Africa Scout Moot 2026, joining the International Service Team.

As the sole Scottish Scout among 30 countries represented, Sarah made new friends, shared cultures and took part in some unforgettable experiences, from rowing 15km across a huge dam to exploring Soweto.

Now back in Shetland, Sarah is bringing those experiences home to inspire the next generation of Scouts.
