Welcome to our latest Newsletter!
May/June 2026
Where has the time gone? Is it just me or is this year flying in? We’ve been really busy here at SEAL Dunfermline with lots happening. Our children’s groups have had a lovely Easter thanks to our fantastic group leaders with outings and activities to the cinema, bowling, gaming van and the ceramic café.
Back at SEAL House the children have been as creative and curious as ever enjoying group activities including celebrating World Recycling Day and being kind to the environment, they made some great toys such as Skittles and Junk Models; Mental Health Awareness Week looking at feelings and sharing where their ‘happy place’ is; exploring Positive Affirmations; receiving their first Achievement Certificates we are now issuing to each child at the end of term and enjoying trips out to the park which has gone down a storm!
Our new Karate Group started at the beginning of May, this is an additional time limited group we are running with the support of Gordon from TKA Karate TKA TKA - Takushoku Karate Association. Gordon has been fantastic supporting our children in trying something new. The kids are doing so well working towards their first karate belt and certificate.
We received exciting news last week that our Chairman of our Trustees and Volunteer Billy Swan has been short listed for an award at the Fife Voluntary Action Awards 2026 for his longstanding contribution in the voluntary sector working with SEAL Dunfermline. Billy has been with SEAL for around 40 years and has endless enthusiasm, energy and commitment to the charity. Thank you Billy for all you do!
We are now looking at improving our back garden space to make it more child friendly and a fun place to spend time in the Summer months. We received a fantastic new barrel- style barbeque from the lovely team at Tesco Fire Station in the Community. Thank you so much again! Beatsons Dunfermline provided a generous discount to allow us to buy some slate chips for the area under our new fire pit, which was so kind Beatsons Building Supplies - Dunfermline. The Yellow Group planted some vegetable seeds earlier in May, so we’re hoping for a bumper crop!
We hope to get some more items for the garden such as outdoor solar lighting, a parasol and some seating as well planting up some flowerpots. If you can help support this by donation or sponsorship we’d be very grateful!
Talking of support and donations, we are always humbled by the support we receive from the local community, individuals and groups. These acts of kindness allow us to keep going and make such a difference to the children we support, thank you so much. We are now on Just Giving so if you’d like to support us, perhaps you’re doing a 5 or 10K, a cycle or swim event or are thinking of raising money for charity by hosting a coffee morning or tea party we’d be grateful if you might consider supporting us at -

We received a very kind offer from Shadow Stack Tech, IT Support in Dunfermline, Fife & Scotland - www.shadowstacktech.com - a local IT and cybersecurity company to help us build a new website which will have better functionality and ease of use than our existing one. More on this coming shortly!
In Volunteering news we’ve received several notes of interest recently as well as a new application and are looking forward to meeting the applicant soon. Where possible we have one volunteer per group to support the children and group leaders which helps groups run smoothly.
The first of four training sessions we are receiving from the National Trauma Transformation Programme was delivered by two Trauma Leads, Louisa Casseldean, a clinical child psychologist from CAMHS, NHS and Jenny Kaski, Project Manager (Trauma Informed) from Fife Council on 28 April to our Group Leaders. The session was an interesting mix of presentation, video, discussion and smaller group discussions. The next session is later in June and when all four sessions have been delivered all of our Group Leaders will be trained at Practice Level 2 which will mean we are better equipped and informed to support the children who attend. Thank you Louisa and Jenny we really appreciate your expertise, input and support!
We hope you’ve enjoyed our latest Newsletter, as ever if you’d like to get in touch or have any ideas you’d like to share with us for SEAL Dunfermline please do get in touch.
Take care
Everyone at Team SEAL!
