☀️ 🏃‍♂️ 🎒 What a day!

Volunteering at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival today meant a VERY early start, a LOT of bags and a few lost water bottles.

Teamwork in action - the Tartan Troopers were complimented on being the ‘fastest’, ‘friendliest’ and ‘most helpful’ as well as being ‘lovely people’.

Last night our Patrol Leaders and Assistant Patrol Leaders came together for a session to explore what their role involves and the support they’ll have as they take it on.

Bringing 35 young people together from across Scotland to form one team is no small task, but the Tartan Troopers are already stepping up and working hard to live out their Scouting values.

Jamborees are about so much more than the time spent at camp, and it’s already been great to see the early stages of personal development across the whole Unit, with leadership skills, confidence and resilience all starting to grow.

"Þetta reddast" (pronounced thet-ta red-dust) is the unofficial national motto of Iceland, translating to "it will all work out okay".

It embodies a cultural, easy-going resilience and optimism, often used to comfort or dismiss challenges, reflecting a belief that things will resolve themselves despite, or because of, unpredictable circumstances.

The band who represented Iceland at last year’s Eurovision contest have a Þetta reddast song and video.

Seems like a good attitude to have for Scouting! What do you think? 🤔

The Unit are busy picking their clothing sizes, thinking about swap items and getting ready for their next event fundraising event. It's less than 3 months until we leave and excitment levels are rising by the day!

Fundraising is never easy but it is an essential part of trips such as ours, and can be fun too.

One great idea is to sell things via gumtree, facebook market place, vinted or ebay and take part of the sale price as commission.

Ask friends and neighbours if they would like to clear their garages, wardrobes or toy cupboards. You can then sell trainers, jigsaws, bicycles, electronics, toiletries, unwanted presents, clothes etc.

Some people are happy to donate the items meaning you keep all the sale money!

If you pick channels without listing fees, you won’t have to spend any money - just remember to think about postage costs when setting the sale price.

At the last camp, the leaders had the honour of unveiling the Badge of the Tartan Troopers! The badge encompasses the identity of the unit, as well as the journey they are embarking on.

Since Training Camp 1, we’ve had a group of the young people working on making the badge for the unit. We thank them for their help and hope everyone is happy with it!

And just like that, training camp 2 comes to an end.

A lovely campfire last night, early wake up and pack up this morning.

We’ve been discussing unit kit, mental health and have assigned PLs/APLs!

Flag is down, camp is done.
Thank you all for a great weekend!
