Elodie, our SSUNI Community Relations Officer, gave evidence before the Stormont Health Committee alongside the Northern Ireland Commissioner Chris Quinn and Leah Rea NICCY Policy & Research Officer on Thursday, 30th April. 🗣️She called for the Department of Health and the Department of Education to join forces to provide mandatory mental health education. She sought for this to be embedded in the curriculum from the very start of primary school to include RSE education, a focus on sport for life not just for elite participation, a trauma informed approach in relation to pupil behaviours as well as full financial support and training to be given to school nurses and teachers. ✨With an estimated £5 return in future savings for every £1 spent in undertaking this approach to mental health, it is hoped that Stormont will see the wisdom of this type of strategy. 💸Elodie also made an impassioned plea for the full incorporation of the UNCRC into domestic law here in Northern Ireland. SSUNI spoke about our Safe Schools Strong Voices campaign and we learned a lot from the Female Voices Project team at Our Lady and St Patrick’s College Knock . They created workshops for multiple year groups on empowering the voices of women and young girls, as well as ending misogyny.✨We’d like to thank all the organisations involved, Ciara our Sustainability officer for all her hard work, Brooke (Mental Health Officer), Katie (Equality Officer) and Connie (Student Voice Officer)😎

Over the past three days, our communications officer Shuya attended ! She took part in the working group 'Advocacy to Impact' to learn about building effective activism movements, to ensure they can make the most impact! Shuya also met many inspiring young people from all across Europe under many different organisations and we look forward to hopefully have the opportunity to collaborate with some of them in the near future!
