For Cathal Joyce this past weekend was one for the books, taking on TPC Sawgrass Sawgrass with his brother and friends.

Before teeing off, they toured the PGA TOUR Studios and the Global HQ, getting an inside look at where the magic of the game comes to life. This is where he was presented with a signed THE PLAYERS Championship flag, autographed by his favorite golfer, Tiger Woods.

Per Cathal, “the trip was unbelievable from start to finish. Pulling through the gates at Sawgrass is an experience in itself … that first look at the clubhouse gives you chills. Breakfast on the patio to soak it all in, then off to the practice area to get ready for an unforgettable round.”

The highlight on the course came at the iconic 17th hole, where it only took two attempts to land it on the green. He used a 9 iron if you were wondering.

This was truly a Round of a Lifetime. 🏌️‍♂️💫

We are thrilled to announce the 24th recipient of Round of a Lifetime, Cathal Joyce.

In 2015, Cathal nearly lost his life on the GAA pitch when he suffered sudden cardiac arrest during warm-ups for a semifinal. His brother, who was also the team’s physio, performed CPR and used an AED to save his life.

Six months later, Cathal returned to play, proving that heart and determination can rewrite any odds.

Today, he is a special needs assistant at a primary school and has trained more than 1,000 people in CPR and AED use, spreading a message that is every bit as powerful as his story.

Off the field, Cathal’s passion has shifted to golf. He has dropped his handicap from 17.4 to 8, competing on multiple club teams and chasing improvement with the same drive that brought him back to life.

On Saturday, April 11, Cathal will tee it up at the legendary TPC Sawgrass in Florida, an experience that represents a full-circle moment, honoring the life he fought to reclaim and the meaningful work he has championed ever since.

When Alex Sekela was 3 years old, he was diagnosed with Vascular Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Like so many other individuals with congenital heart disease, the inability to play contact sports led Alex to finding the game of golf early. He started at age 5 when he received his first set of clubs.

Fast forward 12 years, Alex is now 17. He has taken golf lessons, played on many golf courses, and upgraded his golf clubs. Alex joined the high school golf team and golfs often with friends, family and on his own. Golf has been a lifeline for exercise, friendships and normalcy.

This upcoming Sunday, December 14th Alex will experience a Round of a Lifetime. He will be playing on The Ocean Course at in South Carolina; accompanied by his father, golf partner and friend. Please join me in congratulating Alex on becoming Round of a Lifetime’s 23rd recipient.

Matt DiCarlo, played his Round of a Lifetime at last week with his father, Richard. Per Matt, “golf at Carnoustie tested both our patience and our swings, but the breathtaking scenery—and the incredible caddies we got to know so well—reminded us why we fell in love with the game in the first place. Craig and Scott, our caddies, generously volunteered their time after hearing my story. One of their children was born with a congenital heart defect, and they wanted to meet us. Their story deeply touched our hearts and it just made the experience so much better. Playing golf in Scotland was a dream but doing it alongside my dad made it a blessing. These memories will last a lifetime. Truly grateful beyond words.”

For more information about Matt’s please see the link in bio. Thank you for sharing your experience with us, Matt. And a big thank you to Carnoustie Golf Links for helping make Matt’s dream a reality as well as Caddies Craig and Scott for generously volunteering your time.

The 21st recipient of Round of a Lifetime is Matthew DiCarlo, a 17-year-old high school senior from New Jersey. Initially introduced to the game after being informed that his heart condition limited him to only golf and baseball, Matt embraced the sport with determination and quickly excelled. Per his mother, “golf restored his confidence and allowed him to keep being competitive. Knowing that he can play this game for the rest of his life without worrying about his heart has restored his spirit.”

t was diagnosed with Transposition of the Great Arteries, VSD and Coarctation of the Aorta when he was born. He had corrective surgery at a day old. He then needed a balloon procedure when he was 3 to open up his aortic arch. In 2022, Matt required open heart surgery to receive a mechanical aortic valve.

Remarkably, just five months post-surgery, Matt made the varsity golf team. His resilience and commitment to excellence were recognized when he was named NJ.com’s Best Athlete with a Disability in 2024.

Matt will be playing the historic in Scotland on June 21st, accompanied by his father, Richard.

Please join us in congratulating Matt on being selected as the 21st recipient of .

🌴 Maddie Quinn played her at Kapalua, Plantation Course, in Hawaii last weekend. She was accompanied by her parents ( and ) and brother (Andrew) for an unforgettable round for the whole Quinn family.

Maddie, an 11 year old golf prodigy, demonstrated her natural ability on the course with birdies on the 13th and 17th holes. She also parred the back 9. Unbelievable.

This trip was more than just golf however; it was a celebration of passion, perseverance, and family. ⛳

Here are some video highlights which the Quinn family graciously shared with us. Enjoy.
