Well that's another Scottish Counties Team Championship weekend done and dusted, and what a weekend it was
Both our A and B teams did Dundee proud with some great skill, tenacious match play and team effort on show. Well done to all!
The A team led by Jamie Anderson couldn't have come much closer to making it all the way. On the Saturday they went unbeaten in the group stage. In the last 16 of the Cup they played their second match of the weekend versus Glasgow A, another draw in this fixture leading to a blue ball play off where Dundee came through 5-1.
On to the Quarters then and a tough match versus Moray A, where Thomas Messer pulled out an outstanding clearance under pressure on the colours, cool as you like, to take the match to another blue ball shoot out! When Dundee were down 2-4 in the blue ball race to 5, Moray looked to be on course but the fight was there and some clutch potting from Weland Holroyd, Dave Pawley and Neil Dargie saw Dundee through to the semis, 5-4.
There Dundee met defending champions Aberdeen A, who had lost only 2 frames all weekend. A tight match looked like it may go to yet another blue ball shoot out, but Billy Whyte had other ideas, with a superb clearance of 25 in his frame to take the tie 5-3 and send Dundee into the final. Buzzing. 🐝
Cumbernauld A was the opponent. The opening exchanges couldn't have been tighter but despite superb knocks of 47 and 54 from Jamie and Seymour Scagnetti it was Cumbernauld who took two frames on the black and one on the pink to bump into a 3-1 lead, which they never relinquished. Our congratulations to Cumbernauld for an outstanding weekend and victory, but well done to our boys for a superb effort. Shout out to our top performer Kris Inglis who won 7 of his 8 matches with his only loss coming narrowly on the black 💪
The B team meanwhile showed some superb mettle to put a difficult group stage day behind them to take the first Dundee B win in the competition in the all important knockout stages of the Plate competition, comprehensively defeating Dunfermline B 6-2. On to the quarters then where a solid Edinburgh B team prevailed but it was a great team effort led by captain Emmett McCool who produced a 27 clearance to win his tie. Well done guys.
And....
On to next year - we go again 💪
We'll post some photos soon.
