I am delighted to share that we were visited by Rebecca Jackson Hunt (Deacon) and Mike Hardy (Clerk) from the Cordiners (Shoemakers) of The Nine Incorporated Trades of Dundee.

Earlier this year, they kindly held a quiz night to raise funds for us — and the Cordiners generously matched the total raised. Thanks to their incredible support, they have donated £1,053 to Sight Support & Social Hub.

Laura accepted the cheque on behalf of the organisation, and this contribution will be used for the benefit of all our members. We are truly grateful for their kindness and continued support of local Dundee charities.

Scotland play their first World Cup match in 28 years on Sunday morning.

Haiti vs Scotland kicks off at 2am, and for many people it'll be worth setting an alarm for.

For people with sight loss, following live football can mean missing out on things most fans take for granted - the tension, the build-up, the moment before the goal.

This tournament is doing something about that.

FIFA has introduced audio-descriptive commentary for every match at the 2026 World Cup. It goes beyond standard radio commentary, describing body language, facial expressions, and the movement of the ball.

You can download the FIFA Audio Description app free on iPhone and Android. Search "FIFA Audio description" in your app store.

Nearly 200,000 people in Scotland are living with sight loss. If you know someone who'd benefit from this, please share it with them before Sunday.

Deaf Awareness Week is an opportunity to focus our attention on deafness and hearing loss, to reflect on different experiences, and think about how we make sure everyone is included and involved in what’s going on.

It’s a reminder of the barriers that people who are Deaf or living with hearing loss experience and how we can reduce or remove these barriers.

Take a moment to think about the people in your life, personally or professionally who are Deaf or who have hearing loss. What helps them to hear, and to feel included in conversations and to be able to participate in events? Do you always remember to face them when talking? Do you have any key tips that help the communication?

If you are Deaf or living with hearing loss, what do you find helps make communication easier? what would you like people to do when they communicate with you? What makes your life a little bit easier?

I am delighted to share I was invited along to Camperdown Masonic Lodge yesterday, where I received a £500 donation on behalf of Sight Support & Social Hub. This generosity makes a real difference to our members, and we are very grateful to be chosen for this donation.

Our Afternoon Tea

What an absolutely brilliant afternoon we had today! Our members, their friends, and families all came together for a delicious Afternoon Tea filled with tasty treats, warm cuppas, and plenty of giggles 🍰☕. The room was buzzing with chatter, smiles, and that lovely sense of togetherness.

And then… the stars of the show arrived! ✨
The incredible Dee Ukes lit up the room with their feel‑good tunes and infectious energy 🎶💛. From toe‑tapping rhythms to sing‑along favourites, they had everyone smiling from ear to ear. The atmosphere went from cosy to absolutely electric in the best possible way.

A massive thank you to Dee Ukes for bringing the joy, the music, and the magic. We’re already counting down the days until we can welcome you back again!

🌟 It's Low Vision Awareness Month! 🌟

February is our month to share what life with visual impairment really looks like – beyond the stereotypes and assumptions.

It's not about needing stronger glasses. It's not total blindness. It's the daily navigation of a world designed for full sight: the pile of unread post, the careful kitchen routines, the anxiety of reading a bus number in time, the moment someone thinks you're being rude when you simply can't see their face.

But it's also about resilience, adaptation, and yes – humour. It's Margaret making her grandson a cup of tea with her liquid level indicator. It's the small victories that mean everything.

This month, we're challenging assumptions and sharing our reality. Because when people understand what visual impairment actually means in daily life, they can help create a more inclusive world.

💬 What's one thing you wish people understood about living with sight loss? Share in the comments.
