Tonight, following the Annual Visitation of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Forfarshire to Lodge Albert Lochee 448 and the Robert Burns Lodge of Dundee 1788, the Provincial Grand Master, Bro. Peter Taylor presented Bro. Les Anderson with Honorary PG President of Stewards.
Very well deserved.
Congratulations Bro. Anderson!

The other Dundee landmark that features on our crest is the war memorial that sits above Dundee at the top of the Law.

The memorial was unveiled formally on the 16th May in 1925 and the simple inscription states: TO THE MEMORY OF DUNDEE MEN WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918.

The names of the fallen were also to be shown on panels mounted in the then Albert Institute, now the McManus galleries, a building described as the grandest Albert Memorial outside of London. Work started on this magnificent Dundee building in the same year that Lodge Albert was formed.

We honour our fallen members with small plaques which you can see mounted in the halls.

In a phenomenon matched throughout the country, Lodge Albert saw a huge upsurge in members after the war. It's recorded in our history that membership gave men the comradeship and camaraderie they had known in the forces.

This must still ring true as, to this day, many of our members have served and have found Freemasonry a great place to get back that feeling of belonging.

Cox's stack features prominently on the Lodge Albert, Lochee, No.448 crest, and for good reason! This 282ft 10in (86.2m) tall industrial chimney began construction in 1865, the same year that the Lodge was formed. Still standing proud today, it is a monument to Lochee's industrial history and is considered one of the best historical examples of an industrial chimney in the UK.

Built to provide enough draught to function 39x 8ft boilers which supplied the steam power for engines that powered almost 1000 looms, it's a reminder of how important the Camperdown Works were to Lochee. The works created employment for thousands of locals, as well as driving rapid urbanisation of, and migration to, the area.

Although Lodge Albert has outlived the original usefulness of the Camperdown Works, we are proud of our shared history in the area. 66 years later we were able to erect our own, purpose built home, but that's a story for later!

Good luck to Colin Gray and company today on the first leg of their epic walking visit to Lodges across the province! We met Colin for a quick pic for his page infront of Lodge Albert, Lochee, No.448 and they're in good spirits despite the weather; I'm sure the promise of a hot bowl of soup at the Lodge of Glammis No.99 will keep them going! Good luck!

The Albert Halls have been the home of Lodge Albert, Lochee, 448 for almost 100 years now, following the move from the Weavers Hall which was our home from 1865 to 1931.

From weddings, christenings, funerals, ceremonies, dances, BBQs, charity games, music nights, and everything in between, these halls have seen a lot of use over the years and are still a hive of activity in the community.

What's your favourite memory of Albert Halls?

We don't have a meeting on Thursday the 18th of December, but we will be open for drinks and some festive cheer! Look out your Christmas jumpers and get along for a few laughs and some music; the gnome racing might even make an appearance, as well as the coveted golden spoon! 🤩

All brethren welcome, as well as any interested friends or family members you'd like to bring along!

A reminder for the Lodge Albert Charity BBQ this Sunday 17th August!

The stage is set and the now famous Albert gnomes are ready to race! Will Tyler break hearts by falling at the first hurdle again, or will he stride to victory? It's all to play for!

Can anyone beat Peter Taylor's record on the Target Bowls, or will the dreaded "whirly" get in the way again?

The bean bag toss is a new addition with some high scoring rings, or will you play it safe and try to get all four into the closet, lower rings?

Free BBQ, prize games, raffle, prize auction, and with all profits to Andy's Man Club! All welcome!
