BeFriends Dundee BeFriends is a Dundee based young person's charity (Scottish Charity No. SC022565).

BeFriends is a Dundee based charity and was established in 1981, since then we have provided help and support to thousands of vulnerable and disadvantaged children in the Dundee area. BeFriends acts as a resource for vulnerable/disadvantaged children aged 5-25 providing them with a One-to-One Befriending Service. Through support from befrienders

and by participating in fun activities/experiences we:

* Make a positive change in the lives of the children and young people

* Raise the children and young people’s aspirations and help them realise their full potential

* Build upon the children's key skills and abilities helping them develop into confident and capable individuals

* Enhance the children and young people’s personal, social and communication skills

* Encourage the children and young people to take responsibility for their behaviour and actions and support them to make positive choices that can reshape their future

* Increase the children and young people’s participation in city wide and local activities

As part of Volunteers' Week 2026, we're celebrating the incredible people who give their time to support children and young people through Befriends.

As Lee, one of our Volunteer Befrienders, shares in her quote below, the impact of befriending goes far beyond the activities themselves. The confidence built, new experiences shared and life skills developed can stay with a young person for years to come. At the same time, many volunteers tell us that the friendships they build and the difference they see make a lasting impact on them too.

This Volunteers' Week, we're saying thank you to every one of our volunteer befrienders. Your time, patience and encouragement help create opportunities, memories and positive experiences that can shape futures. We are incredibly grateful for everything you do. ❤️

Today marks the start of Volunteering Week 2026, and we want to say a huge thank you to all of our amazing Befrienders.

Through their time, encouragement and commitment, our volunteers help children and young people build confidence, try new things, develop independence and feel more connected to their community. The impact of these relationships can be truly life-changing, and we're incredibly grateful for everything our Befrienders do.

As part of Volunteering Week, we'll be at the Volunteer Celebration and Recruitment Event on Thursday 4 June from 4.30pm to 7.30pm at Just Bee , 118 Nethergate, Dundee.

Come along to celebrate our wonderful Befrienders, learn more about the work of Befriends, and find out how you could get involved if you're interested in volunteering with us.

We'd love to see you there!
