❗National Drowning Prevention Week

Sea Cadets take water safety seriously.

As part of our water safety training we help young people learn how to stay safe in and around the water.

🙌Here are some Top Tips to keep you safe around the water:

📌If you suddenly fall into cold water, try not to panic or swim hard straight away, especially if you’re not wearing a buoyancy aid.
💙Cold water shock can make you gasp and feel out of control for the first minute or two.
✅Instead, float on your back, keep your head tilted back with your ears in the water, and use your hands to help you stay afloat while you calm your breathing.
❗Once the shock has passed, call for help or swim to safety if you’re able to.

❗Remember: Float to Live – it could save your life.
Help keep your friends and family safe by sharing this message and talking about it together❗

Some of our Cadets and Volunteers from Sea Cadets Dunbar had the privilege of visiting HMS Stirling Castle. They had a great night, with a few spectacular rain showers thrown in, but that didn't spoil their visit. Thanks to our volunteers from both the Unit and the District for planning and supporting this visit!

⭐ Volunteers’ Week – Sea Cadets Dunbar

A sincere thank you to our Training Team and our UMT for everything you do for Sea Cadets Dunbar. Volunteers’ Week is a reminder of the commitment, professionalism and sheer effort you bring to the Unit every week.

Our Training Team delivers the experiences that shape our cadets — from boating and core training to planning, preparation and adapting to whatever each parade night brings. Your consistency, skill and patience make a real difference to every young person who walks through our doors.

Our UMT provides governance, stability and behind‑the‑scenes support that keeps the Unit running. Your work ensures we remain safe, compliant, financially secure and able to offer the best possible opportunities to our cadets and volunteers.

Together, you are the backbone of Sea Cadets Dunbar. Your time changes lives, your support matters, and the impact you make is felt in every success our cadets achieve.

On Saturday Sea Cadets Dunbar enjoyed a fantastic day of Sailing and SUP at Port Edgar Boat Station. Cadets of all experience levels took part, from those getting out on the water for the very first time to our more experienced sailors and paddlers. It was a great opportunity to build confidence, develop skills, and enjoy time on the water. A great day was had by all! Thanks to all staff from Unit and PEBS that made the day possible 🌊⛵️.

🌊 Congratulations to New Entry Cadet Elliot on his promotion to Cadet!

Elliot has worked incredibly hard over the last few months on his onboarding CTP, made new friends, become a regular face at our Thursday parades, and today heads off to his first Unit Boating Day at Port Edgar.

At Sea Cadets Dunbar, ageing out is never a farewell — it’s the moment a cadet steps forward into a new role. This week, we celebrated POC Joshua and POC Connor as they completed their cadet service and began their next chapter with us as volunteers.

Since joining in 2020, both have shown commitment, leadership, and a real passion for supporting others. They leave with instructor qualifications in Sailing, Paddlesports, and Drill, and have represented Sea Cadets Dunbar at District, Area, and National competitions.

Joshua and Connor have been key members of the Unit, helping younger cadets grow in confidence and develop skills. We’re proud of everything they’ve achieved and delighted that they will continue to support the next generation as part of our volunteer team.
