*Black Agnes Society Announcement*

After careful consideration, the Black Agnes Society committee has taken the difficult decision that we will not be hosting any events this summer (2026). There have been a variety of factors in this decision. We were not successful in getting external funding that would have allowed us to proceed as normal, and the combination of this with changes in the personal circumstances of committee members has meant we just do not have the capacity to plan and deliver the quality events that you are used to.

*This does mean that there will not be a Black Agnes Festival in 2026.*

However, we aim to be back in autumn/winter 2026 with another event, and we will be continuing our work in the background until then.
If you would like to join in and help us, we meet on the second Wednesday of every month at The Ridge in Dunbar at 7pm, and we always welcome new members and ideas!

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Much love, the Black Agnes Society committee 🖤🖤🖤

Every year on 13th January we build a fire cairn to mark the anniversary of the start of the 1338 Siege of Dunbar (we celebrate the end of it at our annual Black Agnes Festival in June!) Here we set our intentions for the year ahead, and ask Black Agnes to work a bit of magic for good weather on festival day, and that we can embody a bit of her strength, spirit, and humour all year

From all of us here at Black Agnes HQ - thank you for a wonderful 2025! We started with our annual fire cairn in January...

From all of us here at Black Agnes HQ - thank you for a wonderful 2025! We started with our annual fire cairn in January, and our annual Black Agnes festival in June was a triumph! We hosted our first ever Spring and autumn ceilidhs, as well as our first art exhibition. We’re so excited to bring you more of this in 2026! Thank you to everyone who performed, submitted art pieces, to everyone who came and supported our events, especially our amazing members and wonderful committee! Aggie 5eva 🖤

Following the recent fire at McArthur Store, Dunbar Harbour Trust urgently needs your support to help our fishing community, both in maintaining business continuity with temporary stores and in rebuilding the Stores for the long term.

We’re raising funds to support the fisherman aswell as repair and improve the building. Making it safe, functional and ready to serve our fishermen and their businesses again. We’ll share more details soon on the next steps in this effort.

Thanks for the incredible generosity of local organisations including Tarmac, St Anne’s Church, the Co-op, EDF, Heras fencing and Dunbar Garden Centre. We’re already making strong progress with insurance and safety work. We’ve also had amazing offers of help from individuals, East Lothian Council, our MSPs, and MP.

But there’s still much more to do — and we can’t do it without you.
