What's a peatland? What's ? Why does it hold such significance to us?

The Crichton Carbon Centre, the MOSAIC project, and researcher Charlotte Hunt will talk on THE BRILLIANCE OF BOGS from 10-10.40am Tuesday 27th at Ewart Library, Dumfries.

Drop in afterwards until 12pm to experience through creativity, wonder, and a game.

MOSAIC is working with local communities to explore and develop connections with Kirkconnell Flow through art and creative activity. Crichton Carbon Centre is a not-for-profit specialising in sustainable land use, socioecological art, and environmental education.

🥾💚Green Libraries Week is in full swing!💚🥾

This Friday we'll have some great activities at Ewart Library 10am-12pm for anyone dropping in. There's something for all ages - older kids and adults might want to play our sustainable seaweed card game and try to identify our marine mammal models, and younger kids might like to add to a model merse (salt marsh) by creating animals and plants from arts and crafts.

This is part of the Solway Coast and Marine Project and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund - so thanks to lottery players for making this possible.

Last week we took pupils from Troqueer primary to Kirkconnel Flow Nature Reserve. They'd been learning about all term, and to finish it off they got to visit one! We also brought along a few props to help them explore like this skin picked up by the team on their peaty travels.

This week Sam attended training for river modelling at a JBA consultancy course, the rest of us had a team meeting to catch each other up on our work projects, and Kerry shared that we'd been one of a few others chosen by the Scottish Graduate School for Arts & Humanities to host a funded 2nd or 3rd year PhD student in the arts & humanities (registered at a Scottish HEI) for a project. If you know anyone who fits that description, they can find out more direct with SGSAH.

Fun for all ages! Our Coasts and Oceans event is a Solway Coast and Marine Project event and will show off some of the great interactive resources we've made over the last few months. Challenge yourself to identify marine animals, get crafty adding to our model merse, or play a game about a sustainable seaweed business - and more!

Drop in between 10am - 12pm at Ewart Library 23rd Oct.
