again - it came around quickly!

Sam and Robin have been out at North Sanquhar Moor mapping some areas of complex erosion with the to be developed into a project.

The team had a dinner out to say goodbye to Phoebe, who is moving onto a new job - yes, the desserts tasted as good as they look. Thanks to Phoebe for all her hard work over the years! We'll miss her, but our paths with no doubt cross in the future.

Carys took Kirkcudbright primary's P5/6 class to Argrennan House, where they explored the grounds, did sampling, and helped to sow seeds in the walled garden. They took home a bay seedling each. She was also with Calside P4-7 learning about life cycles and (in the pouring rain, not that it deterred the pupils, but it did mean getting photos was impossible).

Looking at our calendars we have another full week ahead, so we'll see you next Friday for the updates!

Let's catch up with the last couple of weeks for our

Last week we had our second team strategy day (this time with our trustees too!) where we considered our aims, values, and priorities. It was a great day - thanks so much to our coach for facilitating.

This week one of our highlights was taking the S1 science class from North West Community Campus to Kirkconnel Flow Nature Reserve. It was the first time many had been there, and the first time all but two had ever heard what a was. They observed the peatland using both (using and going through the peatland condition survey) and monitoring, where pupils had a series of prompts they could pick from to respond to. Most drew something they could see, and we had some great drawings of cottongrass, Scot's pine cones, heather, and even a green tiger beetle. We hope they'll be able to recognise peatlands in the future after these activities.

And coming up, on a creative theme, our artist Kerry is opening her studio for (studio 59) - sneak peeks included in the photos of this post: https://www.spring-fling.co.uk/studio/morrison-lemke/

MOVING OVER TIME: Land Note Festival Event

are difficult terrain to navigate. Walking conditions are tricky. You can find yourself lifting your legs in an exaggerated fashion and with the next step, slipping into squelching earth... These observations and lived experience of working on peatlands inspired a co-created piece which will take you into the world of – its deep time and breathing - and peatland – in all weather conditions.

Tickets available here: https://www.ticketsource.com/catstrand/moving-over-time/e-aroxdy

The performance will conclude with an open Q&A about peatlands and peatland restoration with experts from the Crichton Carbon Centre (CCC) and the Tweed Forum

Choreographed and performed by Kerry Morrison (CCC Artist) and Rachel Coyle (Tweed Forum Peatland Project Officer), with original score by Lucy Blane, text by Carys Mainprize (CCC), sound and words by Helmut Lemke (Environmental and Sound Artist), and film by Josephine Daube.

We've had a busy few weeks with a lot of admin and office work, which doesn't make for the most exciting photos! Today Lauren was out on the flux tower fixing a broken pipe. Not the most exciting job, but a necessary one (and far more dramatic than the picture makes it look!). A lot of time goes into the maintenance of equipment and site visits, though they don't always come with good views of the tree canopy and beyond.
