In June 2003 a number of minority ethnic community leaders, who wanted to raise the profile of diversity and the different cultures in the area, created Dumfries and Galloway Multicultural Association (DGMA). Dumfries and Galloway Multicultural Association is open to all members of ethnic, religious and cultural minorities in our region as well as individuals who support our aims.

Today, we celebrated Cultural Diversity Day and learned about Eid Al Adha, bringing people together to recognise and appreciate the richness of our diverse community. One of the women’s group members spoke to the audience about the importance of togetherness, highlighting how cultural diversity encourages us to share our values, learn from one another, and strengthen both community and family bonds. The celebration reflected the spirit of unity, respect, and inclusion, while helping us gain a deeper understanding of the significance of Eid Al Adha during this special time.

We had a lovely pot luck meal from the members of the communities.

Finally, we tried the taster session of Mandala Wellbeing by Sherima.

We thank everyone for attending.

🌍 Reducing Food Waste, Supporting Our Communities 💚

Our Surplus Food Share Service is about more than just food, it’s about people, community, and making a real difference together.

Every day, perfectly good food goes to waste while many individuals and families struggle. Through this project, we help rescue surplus food and reducing waste and supporting our local communities at the same time.

Our surplus food share opens every Saturday and Monday from 12:30 onwards until the last piece of bread.

A huge thank you goes to our incredible volunteers who go out of their way to make this possible. Their dedication, kindness, and hard work help keep this project running and ensure support reaches so many people.

Together, we are:✅ Reducing food waste✅ Helping local people and families✅ Supporting a greener future✅ Strengthening our communities
Thank you to everyone who supports, volunteers, donates, and shares our vision. Every contribution makes a difference. 💚

Here are what some of the people are saying:

“Excellent idea to share food and to reduce food waste.”

“It’s a great way for pensioners to eke out their pensions, make it go further, so they don’t have to decide eat or heat.”

“I like to come to the food shelves as it reduces food waste, I take the food that’s suitable for my diet needs because I am diabetic, I take what I need because I think there are more people there needing more than me.”

“The amount of time I spent on studying, I don’t have too much time to work as much as I would like to work and being able pay for my food. I am very grateful for this surplus food service to be made available, it helps me to avoid going into debt, and I like to help reduce food waste too.”

“It helps out the communities, it worth daeing!”

“Because you are allowing everyone, there is no stigma attached using it, where if someone access a food bank, there is! Here is anyone can use it, so there is no stigma for anyone using it, and it reduce food waste why not!”
