Charity supporting young people ages 5-25 in West Dunbartonshire

Since its inception in 1996, Tullochan has helped change the lives of over 5000 young people throughout West Dunbartonshire. We have always changed and grown our services and activities in response to the requirements of local young people. In line with prevailing need, our present focus is entirely on supporting vulnerable, disadvantaged young people, in particular those who are leading chaotic lives often without role models or structures to achieve their potential. Our main activities are the delivery of a broad range of programmes under the priorities of health and well-being, personal development and employability. We operate within all five West Dunbartonshire secondary schools and provide a pipeline of support to young people throughout their schooling from S1 to S5 and include SQA qualifications as part of our model. In addition to this to ensure a seamless and holistic delivery model we have developed a 16+ programme, Tullochan Futures, which is specifically focused on employability and equipping young people with the skills to enable them to progress into employment, education or training.

"I've achieved making a bird box out of wood. I'm happy with my progress because I finished it, improved my skills, and I think I'm going to gift it to someone for Christmas."

Andrew's reflection perfectly captures the progress he's made through our Timber Transitions programme.

This week, Andrew independently built a bird box from reclaimed pallet wood, adding to a wall-mounted key holder he previously created. Through hard work, listening to feedback, and developing his practical skills, he has successfully completed two high-quality woodworking projects.

While Andrew felt that limited experience and qualifications could be a barrier to employment, he has shown something equally valuable: a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a real can-do approach.

We're incredibly proud of how far Andrew has come and look forward to seeing what he creates next!

We are extremely excited to announce that we've secured £500,000 funding from The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland to allow us to continue supporting young people and families across West Dunbartonshire over the next 5 years.

Alex Goodwin, our Operations Manager said: "We're delighted that Tullochan have secured funding from the Fairer Life Chances programme. With this level of funding, it will enable Tullochan to move beyond short-term funding cycles and deliver sustainable and lasting change for some of the most disadvantaged communities in West Dunbartonshire."

A huge thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund and to National Lottery players for making this possible. Together, we can continue creating opportunities, building brighter futures, and ensuring young people have the support they need to thrive.

A fantastic evening of live music, community spirit and fundraising at Dumbarton Football Club has raised an incredible £300 for Tullochan!

Last week, former Tullochan Chief Executive Richie, alongside Mario, owner of Dumbarton FC, brought together supporters, friends and community members together for a memorable night of entertainment and generosity.

Every pound raised will help us continue supporting young people across West Dunbartonshire to build confidence, develop new skills and improve their wellbeing through our youth development and employability programmes.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a success. Your support makes a real difference to the lives of local young people.

A huge well done to Luca, who has successfully completed his latest project with our Furniture Fix programme! 🪑

Over the course of four sessions, Luca took on the challenge of restoring a large table entirely on his own. From carefully dismantling the table, sanding every piece, applying 2-3 coats of clear varnish, and finally reassembling it back into a beautifully finished piece of furniture, Luca showed incredible dedication, patience and attention to detail throughout.

What makes this achievement even more impressive is that Luca worked independently from start to finish - with little help from staff!

Luca joined Tullochan through the DWP & Tullochan Youth Hub partnership and, while he has now completed this furniture restoration project, he will continue to work with us through 1:1 employability support sessions as he progresses towards his future goals.

We're incredibly proud of everything Luca has achieved so far and look forward to supporting him on the next stage of his journey.

Last week, our Wellbeing Group got started on an exciting project to bring some colour and personality to our youth space, one brick at a time. 🌈

The young people have been busy planning their designs, drawing inspiration from everything from music and TV to insects and nature.

We can't wait to see how their ideas develop and to welcome even more creative designs from our other groups in the weeks ahead. Fancy coming along to our wellbeing group? Come along on Wednesday evenings, 5pm-7pm :)

This week at our Commonwealth Family Arts & Crafts session, families in Bonhill got together to create their own team family flags, building positive relationships through creativity, communication and teamwork. It was fantastic to see everyone collaborating, sharing ideas and celebrating what makes their family unique.

We recently delivered our Rugby Leadership Programme in partnership with Clydebank RFC Titans helping young people develop valuable skills including confidence, teamwork, communication and leadership.

Across four engaging sessions, participants tackled practical challenges, led activities and reflected on how these skills can support them not only in sport, but in everyday life, education and future employment.

The enthusiasm, participation and commitment shown by the young people throughout the programme was fantastic, and we're incredibly proud of everything they achieved.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the programme such a success.👏

What a wonderful first harvest we've had here at Tullochan!🌱

Our growing space is thriving, and we're delighted to have harvested leeks, potatoes, kale, tomatoes, celery, a variety of onions, and fresh herbs including rosemary, parsley and chives.

It's amazing to see the hard work, care and dedication that's gone into growing these fresh ingredients that are being used within our café, The Common Good.
