As part of the Big Help Out Weekend 2026 and Volunteer’s Week, last Friday scouts, explorers and their leaders from Bromley Scouts, were joined by scouts/explorers from Royal Greenwich to take part in a sponsored sleep out on the walkways under the colonnades at the Old Royal Naval College in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
So far, their fund-raising efforts have raised £1,095 plus £233 gift aid to support the homeless in Bromley. They have also received a letter from HM The King acknowledging their efforts. Whilst at the College they were given special permission in recognition of this community service to use the historic Skittle Alley, followed by watching a feature film which had been filmed on location there.
Sheila Howard, the District Lead Volunteer for Bromley said “I can think of nowhere more iconic to stage this event than the Old Royal Naval College, a site in the heart of the Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site. The young people did so well and I am very proud of them. Any additional donations via our Just Giving site would be most welcomed. Supporting the local community is so important and forms part of the Scout Promise that every member makes. I am delighted that members of our District decided to support the Bromley homeless charity ’ a very worthy cause.
Bromley Scout District would like to thank all the volunteers who supported the event, the Old Royal Naval College for allowing the event to take place and to TS Dreadnaught, Greenwich, Deptford and Rotherhithe Sea Cadets for use of their facilities on site.

As a Trustee, you'll play an important role in supporting the governance, strategy and long-term success of Scouting across our County, helping us support amazing opportunities for thousands of young people and volunteers.

We welcome expressions of interest from people with a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. Previous Trustee experience is not essential.

It’s Volunteers’ Week, and we’re starting with two very simple words:

Across South London, thousands of young people get to try new things, make friends, learn skills and find their place in Scouts because volunteers give their time, energy and care.

Whether you run a section every week, support a camp, manage equipment, help with admin, sit on a trustee board, drive a minibus, make the tea, lead a game, or step in when someone needs a hand — you matter.

This Pride Month, South London Scouts celebrates the importance of kindness, respect and belonging.

South London, fancy a weekend at Gilwell? 👀

Gilwell Reunion booking opens today at 2pm — and 2026 is a big one, marking 100 years of Reunion.

It’s one of those weekends where you bump into people from across Scouting, pick up new ideas, join workshops, sit round a campfire, attempt to survive the silent disco, and remember why volunteering in Scouts is pretty brilliant.

Whether you’re a Group volunteer, District team member, County volunteer, Network member, or just someone who loves a good Scout weekend away, it would be great to see South London well represented.

From 2pm today, you can:

• Book your place
• Sign up to volunteer
• Apply to run a workshop or exhibit

Small hands. Big impact.

Last week, Beavers from 4th Welling were out litter picking on Welling High Street, putting their Scout values into action and helping make a difference in their local community.

Their brilliant efforts didn’t go unnoticed either, with members of the public stopping to share their praise along the way.
