Duffield Evening WI

Duffield Evening WI Welcome to Duffield Evening WI. Our main meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at St Margaret Clitherow Church on Hall Farm Road, Duffield

We have a membership of over 100 women from Duffield and neighbouring areas. As well as our main meetings which provide a great programme of talks and social get togethers, we have a number of active sub-groups for our members to get involved in; these include walking, book clubs, craft, dining out, gardening, cookery, choir and trips out. This page is updated routinely so members can find out what's coming up and share photos and comments on what's been happening across DEWI

Over 20 DEWI members met in person yesterday evening; the first face to face get together since February 2020.
We braved the English weather and had a good natter accompanied by a picnic outside St Margaret’s in Duffield. As you can see from the photos we wore weatherproof clothing and had a great time. It was lovely to see everyone.

Here’s a message from Dawn.
Come and see the Yarn Art Project by Duffield’s three WIs which is on display from Sunday 13th June to Thursday 1st July at the Wirkswirth Rd Corner & Library.

The members of the three Duffield WI’s have put the isolation and restrictions of lockdown to good use over the past months by learning to crochet from scratch, with others re-visiting their knitting needles and crochet hooks for the first time in many years.

Our ‘lockdown efforts’ have culminated in a Yarn Art Project which we hope will bring cheer to all visiting the Wirksworth Road Corner and outside the Library from Sunday 13th June to 1st July to co-incide with what would have been DCA’s carnival week. The Theme is: Love – depicted by Hearts, Hope, depicted by Daffodils and Thankfulness, depicted by Rainbows.

All the wool used is repurposed and not purchased specifically for this project and following the Yarn Art display, one of our WIs will take the squares to be made into blankets to go to a school in Kabale, Uganda, so they will go on to a much-needed home.

Posted on behalf of the Duffield Evening WI Committee.

Reaching out to our Women’s Institute family stuck far away from loved ones, friends and family over Christmas due to current restrictions.
2020 has been an extremely difficult year for all of us throughout the country. Our hearts go out to those of you (whether WI members or not) denied the opportunity to visit the graves of loved ones far from home, to tidy up and pop something on for Christmas, as you would normally like to at this time of year.
If you have a loved one’s grave in a cemetery local to us, Duffield Derbyshire DE56, please get in touch by ‘private message’ via Facebook or email [email protected] so that one of us can happily visit on your behalf.
Wishing you all as cheerful a Christmas as possible.
Duffield Evening Women’s Institute.

Like a lot of groups we’ve been active throughout this Covid period despite recent restrictions. Most of our sub groups have continued to run, the Committee have met and we’ve got together over Zoom; it looks as though the Covid situation will continue for some time to come. There is good news however, and we are please to say that we are now booking speakers to visit us using Zoom. Starting with Saffron Summerfield this evening who will talk to us about Birdsong.

For many of use Zoom has been a new experience and we’ve learnt as we went along. If you need help to attend the Duffield Evening WI meetings or subgroups please email us at [email protected] and we will get you up and running.

If your interested in joining our WI please email us at the above address.

I grew these pea shoots using dried peas from supermarket, soaked overnight and planted in compost. The idea came from a Linda Singleton video on DFWI Facebbok page. They were delicious in last night’s salad and still got rest of packet to grow some more.
