With the Football World Cup starting tomorrow, CHADD is standing against domestic violence and partnering with Black Country Women’s Aid and campaign.
Football does not cause domestic abuse.
However, at certain times, including around matches, some people may notice changes in behaviour, particularly when alcohol, drugs, or gambling are involved.
Abuse is not about losing control. It is about patterns of behaviour and choices that are used to harm or control another person.
When someone harms their partner or family member, that responsibility sits with them.
People who use abusive behaviour often show that they can choose how and where they act. For example, they may behave differently in public or around others.
Abuse does not happen because of a match result, a drink, or a difficult day.
It is never justified by external circumstances.
If you are experiencing abuse, please know it is not your fault.
You deserve to feel safe, respected, and supported.
