A Tipton pub has received several improvements over recent weeks.

The work at The Rising Sun in Horseley Road was completed in time for the Black Country Ales pub's annual beer festival from June 18 to 21.

The rear beer garden has been upgraded with a new artificial grass surface and benches.

The darts room at the rear and the toilets have also been refurbished.

New seats have also been installed in the lounge and new furniture has been bought in along with internal redecoration and new carpets.

Manager Malcolm 'Maca' Roberts has run the pub for 14 years.

The bar at Kinver Constitutional Club is opening to non-members as part of an Armed Forces Day event on Saturday, June 27.

Kinver Royal British Legion has teamed up with the club for the event.

The bar of the club in High Street, which offers up to 10 real ales, will be open from 10am to 4pm.

There will be a display of military vehicles on the club car park and Black Country cobs will be on sale.

There will also be an outside bar from 12 noon weather permitting.

The club - the former Green Dragon Hotel - was bought in 1937 from the old Hanson's Brewery in Dudley.

We’re really pleased to share that the branch committee is now in place for the coming year, with all key roles filled. There are still a few non‑critical positions open, so there’s plenty of scope for anyone who’d like to get involved.

It’s great to see such continuity from last year, and a big thank you to everyone who has kindly agreed to continue. Your support makes a real difference.

At the same time, like many volunteer organisations, the long‑term health of the branch depends on fresh faces and new ideas coming through.

Getting involved- even in a small way- helps ensure we can keep things thriving in the years ahead.

If you’ve ever thought about playing a part in the branch, or simply becoming a more active member, we’d love to see you at one of our monthly meetings.

You can find all the dates on our branch diary page.

This Monday, the branch will be holding its AGM at the Rose & Crown in Brierley Hill at 7pm.
It’s an important date in our calendar, setting the direction for the next twelve months and giving us the chance to reflect on the year gone by.
Several committee roles will need filling, and without them the branch simply can’t function. Even if you’re not looking to join the committee, your presence would be warmly welcomed, and there may even be a sandwich or two waiting.
We hope to see you there.

Two Woodsetton pubs have been given a new lease of life.

The Bramford Arms in Tipton Road re-opened on June 1 following its conversion from a Hungry Horse to a Flaming Grill by owners Greene King.

Real ale has been re-introduced to the pub following the improvements.

It is now offering three beers on handpull.

The pub, run by a team led by general manager Shaun Howe, is now one space with a single bar and offers food seven days a week.

The three outside seating areas, including the large beer garden, have also been upgraded.

The Brook Inn in Bourne Street has also had its large beer garden improved with the help of the local community in time for the summer.

The pub run by licensee Tina Marson since last September is currently offering one real ale but may increase that if demand increases.

There are Thursday quiz and Wednesday open mic nights being run on alternate weeks and entertainment on Saturdays.

A defibrillator has been bought for the pub following fundraising and local councillors have donated a cabinet for it and a bleed kit.

The Brook is family friendly with children allowed up to 9pm.

The First Sedgley Morris side has a summer tour of the pubs of the village planned.

On Thursday, June 11 the mixed Morris side will be visiting six pubs.

First Sedgley will first be dancing at the Swan Inn, Gospel End Street at 7,45pm, moving on to the White Horse in Dudley Street at 8.10pm and the Red Lion in Bull Ring at 8.40pm.

There will be dancing at the front of the Bull's Head in Bilston Street, a Holden's pub, at 9.10pm and in the garden at the White Lion, Bilston Street, half an hour later.

The final stop is at the Beacon Hotel in Bilston Street for dancing in the rear garden at 10pm.

First Sedgley, a Cotswold Morris side, formed in 1979 as a men's group and became a mixed side in 2024.

(The Bull's Head is one of the pubs where dancing is planned.)

The Fountain real ale pub in Lower Gornal has turned its former restaurant area into the Fountain Cozy Lounge.

It is being used for darts and a TV system is being installed in time for the World Cup.

The lounge, which was originally a bowling alley, is also available for hire for special events.

The pub offers a midweek Camra Club with members able to get 10 per cent off their cask ale from Tuesday to Thursday.

Lower Gornal should soon have a new brewery and taproom operating.

Harris Homecraft has applied to Dudley Council for a premises licence for 42-43 Zoar Street to sell alcohol for consumption on and off the premises Monday to Saturday between 9am and 6pm.

Any representations have to be received by the licensing authority by June 17.

Dark Rock Brewing already has the brewing kit and is hoping to open up the taproom later in the year.

It will be located in James's Yard next to the existing home brew business.

Improvement works are continuing at the Beacon Hotel in Sedgley.

New car park entrance gates have been installed off Bilston Street.

Work is underway on converting old garages into a cold store, barrel wash and workshop for the Sarah Hughes Brewery on the site.

Last year the re-built conservatory at the pub was opened and a new drinking area opened in the former staff room on the ground floor.

The indoor toilets at the Beacon, home of Dark Ruby Mild, were also refurbished.

The Beacon is a Grade II listed building and has won the Dudley and South Staffordshire CAMRA branch pub of the year award several times.
