📢 Do you know what private fostering is?

It’s when a child under 16 (or under 18 if they have a disability) lives with someone who isn’t a close relative for 28 days or more.

Many people don’t realise they’re in a private fostering arrangement — which means some children may miss out on important support.

Together, we can help keep children in Dudley safe and supported 💛

Today we share the heartfelt story of a kinship carer couple who stepped up for their nieces and nephew back in 2017:

🗣 *“We became kinship carers to our two nieces and nephew back in 2017, when they were just 5, 8, and 10 years old. Overnight, our quiet home of two became a bustling family of five — and we would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

It hasn’t always been easy. There have been many challenges along the way, and it hasn’t been all fun and fairytales. We've faced our share of tough times, but through it all, our focus has always been the same: giving the children a safe, loving, stable home.

One of the greatest rewards has been witnessing the children experience things for the very first time — their joy, wonder, and excitement are moments we will never forget. And we hope those memories stay with them too.

Two of the children have now grown up and moved on with their lives. They’ve told us it’s because of us that they’ve become the people they are today. Hearing that means everything — it reminds us that we’ve truly made a difference.

We still have one of our nieces with us, and we’re now looking into applying for a Special Guardianship Order (SGO).

Being kinship carers has been a journey of love, growth, and resilience. And despite the ups and downs, it’s one we’re incredibly proud to be on.”* 💜

Kinship carers like this show extraordinary love and commitment, making a lifelong difference in the lives of children. 🌿✨

💜 Kinship Care Week – Day 5 💜

Today we share the incredible story of a kinship carer who has been caring for her great nieces for the past 14 years:

🗣 *“I have been a Kinship carer for the past 14 years, on my own, a single Mum if you like.
I gave up my full time job to care for my 3 great nieces, at the time they were 4, 3 and 2 years old. I took the girls in an emergency situation and had to make this decision very quickly.

I can honestly say it has been the most challenging but rewarding time of my life. Life has seen very big highs but also very big lows. Behavioural, emotional and educational challenges to name a few, but to know they have had a loving stable home life with as much normality as possible, taking great family holidays or playing games at home, such fun and great memories, hopefully will stick with them forever.

2 girls who are still with me now are thriving. If I had to do it now, I would take the same task on in a heartbeat.”* 💜

Kinship carers like this show extraordinary love, resilience, and commitment every day. Their role is critical in giving children stability, belonging, and the chance to thrive. 🌿✨
