This Kinship Care Week, we want to share the real heart of what kinship care is — through the words of one of our own local carers, plus a few things you might not know:
💬 From a local kinship carer:
“I didn’t plan for it, but when my family needed me, I stepped up. It’s hard work and there are busy days, but seeing them feel safe, loved, and still at home with their family? There’s no greater reward. We’re not just looking after children — we’re keeping our family together.” 💛

💡 5 things you might not know about kinship care:
1️⃣ It’s not always grandparents — carers can be aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins, or close family friends who step in when needed.
2️⃣ Many step forward with no notice — often with little time to prepare, yet they open their homes and hearts immediately.
3️⃣ It keeps children connected — staying with someone they know preserves family ties, culture, identity, and lifelong memories.
4️⃣ It’s one of the most stable forms of care — children in kinship care often have better long-term outcomes because they stay rooted in their community.
