Too many disabled people are unable to afford to live with their partner. For many this puts them off even trying to find love. If they have a limited capacity for work, moving in with a partner could mean they are stripped of all means-tested benefits, and left financially dependent upon their partner, creating heavily unequal situations. By retaining their benefits, they would be able to retain financial independence and be able to live with the one they love and still be able to afford the already high cost of disability.

Under current rules, people on ESA or UC risk losing some or all of our benefits if we find love and move in with a partner. This means that we have to choose either happiness or financial independence. These unfair rules have discouraged me from looking for love at any point in my life.
