DIABETES UK - event please tell people.

Together Type 1 Midlands 11-15yrs Type 1 Family Event

Date: Thursday 20th August 2026 (during summer holiday)
Time: 12:30pm-4:30pm

• Meet outside the venue at 12:15pm
• This event is for 11–15-year-olds living with type 1 diabetes and their families
• Diabetes UK will cover the total cost of the event, and it is completely free for all participants
• Each young person must be accompanied by a parent/carer who must remain on site at all times
• Each young person must bring their BG meters/Hypo Treatment/Insulin or the young person will not be allowed to participate
• Diabetes UK staff will also carry hypo treatment
• We recommend that each child attending eats lunch before the event and brings a drink, snacks will be provided
• Staff and Young Leaders from Diabetes UK will supervise young people and families participating in activities
• For comfort and safety, it is advised that young people wear sporty/comfortable clothes with trainers if taking part in the sports day activities
• Once you have registered for the event, we will be in contact to understand which activities your child would like to take part in

About Together Type 1:

The Basics:
 The Together Type 1 programme is aimed at young people aged between 11-25 living with type 1 diabetes.
 Developed through feedback that young people living with type 1 diabetes have felt left out and isolated.
 Focused on co-production and co design with young people.

16-25 Year Olds:
 Young Leader Volunteering Role:
- Peer Support Training.
- Leading peer support sessions for younger people living with type 1.
- 1-2-1 buddying/mentoring younger people living with type 1.
- Presentations about type 1 diabetes, care and change you want to see to Healthcare Professionals and at NHS Network Meetings.
- Free fun days out and residential trips.
- Leading our social media strategy.
- Supporting with the creation of digital resource creation for young people living with type 1 diabetes.
- Story sharing.
- Volunteering at our 11–15-year-old fun events.
- Volunteering at our Tree of Life events.
- Representing Diabetes UK at external community events.
- CV boosting experience and references.
- Free Together Type 1 hoody, polo/T-shirt, mug and other merchandise.

 General Involvement (without becoming a Young Leader):

- Attending 16-25 Type 1 Chats on a variety of age appropriate/mature topics.
- Attending free in person fun events/Tree of Life peer support events.
- Join our WhatsApp group of almost 50 young people living with type 1 diabetes who talk about all things type 1 and not!

11-15 Year Olds:
 Attend our free fun events.
 Attend our free Tree of Life events.
 Attend 11-15 Type 1 Chats led by Young Leaders on age-appropriate topics.
 Benefit from 1-2-1 buddying/peer mentoring.
 Benefit from our digital resources.
 Share experiences.
 Work with us on social media content.
 Competitions with the chance to win exciting prizes.
