Friends of Dronfield Station

Friends of Dronfield Station Bringing back the trains, the people...and the pride! See FriendsofDronfieldStation.org.uk for more! We are actively supported by Derbyshire County Council.

FoDS are a group of people whose aim is to get more services on more days from Dronfield railway station by promoting it and lobbying central government (the Department for Transport) and the train operating companies. Our members include representatives of North East Derbyshire District Council, Dronfield Town Council and the Civic Society. It also has the full support of our local MP Natascha En

gel; indeed it was she who brought us together by calling a public meeting. New members are most welcome at any time.

Hi Friends, followers and passers-by!
BAD NEWS! - ALL SERVICES at Dronfield on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th are by Bus Replacement due to engineering works by Network Rail who are undertaking major engineering works on the weekend of March 7-8, 2026. This is to replace a life-expired railway bridge that carries the line over the River Sheaf at Beauchief, located between Sheffield and Dore & Totley.
The key engineering works include:

Bridge Replacement: A new 73-tonne bridge deck will be lifted into place by a crane to ensure the long-term safety and reliability of the line.

Track Renewal: Around 60 metres of track will be replaced, involving the installation of 90 new sleepers and 86 tonnes of ballast.

A bus replacement timetable will be posted at the station

Hello friends, sponsors, colleagues, associates and passers-by.

The new December timetable has been enacted and is now present on the notice boards at the station and online.

No major changes, just the odd few minutes difference here and there. And I think there is an order of arrival change in the early mornings, but that might just be my imagination! Alas, there are no later evening trains yet, but I do know that SYMCA for whom I currently work, are talking about it after our campaign earlier in the year. Maybe the May timetable change. We'll have something for us all.

The Friends of Dronfield Station sadly announce the death of their founder, president and chairman Dr Peter Hayward MBE. Peter had not been well in recent years but saw the transformation of the station and its services well before he was poorly. Without his foresight, knowledge, contacts and kindly persuasion, I think the station might well have closed by now. FoDS send their condolences to his wife Jill and family and will be commemorating his magnificent achievements in coming years. May he rest in peace.
