This year marks 162 years of Sykes Lodge being part of Driffield’s history.
It’s been a while since I last posted on the Driffield Masonic Hall page. Between career changes, health issues and busy lives, time has run away a bit recently so I apologise for the recent silence.
It feels only right to return by celebrating something special. 162 years. Wow. At 41 that’s almost 4 times as long as I’ve been alive!
Generations of local men have walked through the doors of Driffield Masonic Hall — building friendships, supporting the community, and becoming part of something that lasts far beyond themselves.
And despite what many people assume, Freemasonry isn’t just “an old man’s club.”
In fact, Sykes Lodge is proud to have some of the youngest members in the whole Province of Yorkshire, North & East Ridings.
We’ve got members from all walks of life and all age groups — different careers, different backgrounds, all brought together by shared values, friendship, self-improvement, and community spirit.
In a world where people are increasingly disconnected, having somewhere you genuinely belong matters more than ever.
Freemasonry gives people that.
Not through pressure or status, but through friendship, support, charity work, tradition, and the chance to grow as a person alongside others who want to make a positive difference.
Behind the walls of your local Masonic Hall are ordinary local people:
• neighbours
• tradesmen
• business owners
• sons, fathers, brothers and friends
Men who simply want to support one another and contribute positively to the community around them.
Whether it’s fundraising, helping local causes, supporting fellow members through difficult times, or simply sharing good company over a meal, the impact of Freemasonry often reaches far further than people realise.
So if you’ve ever been curious about the building you’ve driven past a hundred times, why not start a conversation?
The door has been open in Driffield for 162 years — and it still is today.
