Corie joined the Household Cavalry in 2005 and was the first Barbadian to ride the ceremonial gate to es**rt the Queen.

But in 2009, disaster struck. Whilst serving in Afghanistan, Corie lost both his legs after hitting a roadside bomb. But with unwavering determination, the support of his family and Help for Heroes, he rebuilt his life — going on to become a world champion in para bobsleigh.

What a bank holiday weekend for the Hockey for Heroes men's squad! 🏑⛰️

The Hockey for Heroes men's squad took on their latest challenge, Operation Ascension, and what an achievement it was!

On Saturday, the team tackled Mount Snowdon carrying a 90kg weighted stretcher up and down the mountain 💪🔥

Then on Sunday, they swapped hiking boots for hockey sticks, taking part in a tournament against Neston and Chester Hockey Clubs in the bank holiday sunshine ☀️🏑

Together, they raised an incredible £3,000+ for our Armed Forces community.

This is just the latest chapter in an amazing journey. Since 2013, Hockey for Heroes has raised over £400,000 for Help for Heroes, helping provide vital support to those who have served.

To everyone who took part, donated, supported and cheered from the sidelines, thank you. 💙

Join us in congratulating the team below! 👏

“Sometimes there is so much going on in someone’s life that they don’t know which way to turn first.”

That’s something our Veterans Clinical Advisor Helen Sirrell spoke about in a recent podcast with the Lincolnshire Military Veterans and Families Wellbeing Network.

At Help for Heroes, our clinical and welfare teams support veterans and their families in many different ways from helping people access services to simply reassuring them that they are on the right pathway and taking the right next steps.
In the podcast, Helen explains how important it can be to have someone to talk things through with when life feels overwhelming.

What are you doing to mark D-Day this year?

Operation Swim is a meaningful way to mark 6 June, the anniversary of D-Day, through action and remembrance.

It’s a swimming challenge with a difference. Choose one of five distances from 5km to 47km, reflecting the length of the Normandy beaches. Every swim is a tribute and a chance to reflect on the courage, sacrifice and determination shown by those who landed there.

💬“I took part to improve my personal fitness, fundraise and to honour the D Day generation who never gave up.”
Robert, Operation Swimmer

Operation Swim isn’t about competition. It’s about taking time to remember, pushing yourself and paying respect to the generation who changed the course of history.

By taking part, you’re supporting our veterans of today, whilst commemorating our heroes of yesterday.

Find out more and mark D-Day with us this June. https://brnw.ch/21x2PAP
