Reuse & Repair Week 2026 was a huge success, thanks to the incredible creativity, commitment and community spirit shown by organisations right across Northern Ireland. ๐ŸŒโœจ

Now, we would love your help to choose your favourite activity from RRWNI26. We have had the impossible task of selecting three finalists from the week, and the winner of the public poll will receive a ยฃ500 prize to support their work. ๐ŸŽ‰

While it was incredibly difficult to whittle the list down to just three, every activity contributed tremendously to the success of the week, and we want to say a huge thank you to every organisation, volunteer, participant and partner who helped make RRWNI26 so impactful. ๐Ÿ‘

However, there can only be one winner, and that decision is now over to you!

Please vote for your favourite activity from the three finalists:

1. North West BAPS / Zero Waste North West
A special Zero Waste Parenting event supporting mums and families, with conversations around breastfeeding, circular parenting, reusable products, and a pop-up from the ZWNW Toy Library. ๐Ÿ‘ถโ™ป๏ธ

2. Life Changes Changes Lives & Newry, Mourne & Down District Council
The โ€œOld to Goldโ€ initiative gave furniture destined for landfill a new lease of life, while supporting participants to learn restoration and upcycling skills, build confidence and connect with others. One lady commented "the sessions weren't just about reusing & repurposing furniture, they have allowed me to reuse skills & repurpose myself." ๐Ÿช‘โœจ

3. Via Wings
โ€œThreads of Change: Small Stitches, Big Impactโ€ helped attendees learn simple clothing repairs and alterations, showing how small changes can keep garments in use for longer. ๐Ÿงต๐Ÿ‘•

Comment below with 1, 2 or 3 to vote for the activity you think should receive the ยฃ500 prize. ๐Ÿ’ฌ๐Ÿ‘‡

Voting closes on Friday 26th June at 12.00pm.

As memories of the Ballykinler GAC Sunrise Walk come back to us, we are reminded of what a truly special morning it was.

In the early hours, people from across our community came together to walk, reflect, remember and support one another. There was something incredibly powerful about standing together in the darkness and watching the sunrise, a reminder that even after the longest night, light returns.

The walk was held in memory of those we have lost to su***de, while also sending a clear message of hope and support to those who may currently be struggling. It was a chance to remember loved ones, share stories, stand alongside friends and family, and show that as a community we care deeply about one another.

We are delighted to share that the event raised an amazing **ยฃ325 in donations on the day**, with a further **personal donation of ยฃ500**, bringing the total raised to **ยฃ825** in support of Life Change Changes Lives and the services we provide across our community.

These funds help us continue delivering counselling, addiction recovery support, creative therapies, welfare advice, community wellbeing activities and support for those affected by mental ill health, su***de, isolation and life challenges.

A huge thank you to **Ballykinler GAC** for hosting such a meaningful event, to everyone who organised, volunteered, donated and walked, and to those who came simply to stand together in remembrance and hope.

What a lovely example of community at its very best โ€” people coming together to honour those we have lost, while standing up and being counted for those who continue to struggle.

Together we remember. Together we support. Together we give hope. ๐Ÿ’›

Busy Time For Captain Donal.

Although he indicated at the beginning of his year as 2026 Captain of Bright Castle Golf Club that he was happy to take a back-seat with regards the Clubโ€™s inter-club teams this season, Donal Smith has had a busy time of things of late, both on and off the course. Having led the over 50s senior menโ€™s team to the final of that particular competition in 2025, heโ€™s once again steering that particular ship this year and heโ€™ll be back in action with his teammates this coming Saturday in their round three match against Letterkenny. Donal also teed it up last Sunday in the Jimmy Bruen Shield at Warrenpoint and although Gerard Creggan and himself suffered a reversal in their foursomes tie, the team made it through to round three of the competition and Ciaran Mahonโ€™s side will face Silverwood on Sunday week, June 28th. We wish both teams the very best of luck.

Off the course, as well as making preparations for his Captainโ€™s Day on Saturday, August 1st, Donal has been finalising plans for a couple of charity events which are taking place over the coming weeks. All monies raised via this yearโ€™s fundraisers are being donated to Life Changes, Changes Lives, (LCCL), & Pop-Up Art, Downpatrick, which provides a safe, welcoming space for people with mental health challenges, addiction and social isolation. Their Social Cafรฉ situated in Market Street, Downpatrick offers more than just coffee and Captain Donal has been known to partake in the odd traybake (or three) from there himself, which he highly recommends. This Friday evening, June 19th, Donal will be welcoming invited guests from Ardglass, Downpatrick and Spa golf clubs to Bright, along with other friends and family to his Captainโ€™s Guests evening, while the following weekend will see the Captainโ€™s Charity Competition for Bright Castle members take place. Members can choose to play on the Friday, Saturday or Sunday but naturally can only enter once. Entry fee will be ยฃ20 and will include competition entry, a donation to the charity, twos, nearest the pin prizes, raffle tickets and an entry into the Captainโ€™s Golden Shot, which is being trialled ahead of Captainโ€™s Day in August.

Although the majority of tee boxes have been sponsored for both events, anyone wishing to sponsor a tee box and/or green (ยฃ20) is asked to contact Donal on 07843807516.

Blustery conditions made things difficult enough for the majority of the players in last Saturdayโ€™s stableford competition but both Ross Dunwoody and Dylan Duffy proved that good scores were achievable, when they both finished with 40 points. A better back nine score gave Ross the victory with Dylan taking second place and the minor placings filled by Trevor Oโ€™Shea (38), Pat Dornan (36) and Ken Montgomery (34). The ever consistent Darren Boyd secured the gross prize and also pocketed a share of Saturdayโ€™s twos pot, with other shares going to Dylan Duffy, Colm McNeil and Donal Smith. Players are reminded that they are responsible for making sure that all scores are entered correctly onto the computer upon competition of their rounds and that their scorecard is signed by both themselves and whoever was marking their card.

Members are reminded that Captainโ€™s Day tee time sheets are available in the shop and members are asked to indicate whether they want to play in the 930am or 130pm shotgun starts on Saturday, August 1st.

After the third of eight 2026 Order Of Merit, Sam Burns leads the way with 103 points, closely followed by Phil Bullock on 102 points, with Odhran Collins two points further adrift on 100 points. Members are reminded that their six best scores in the eight Order Of Merit events will count towards their overall total.

As the Co. Down 5K gets underway this evening, we want to give a special shout-out to our very own Suzanne, who took on the challenge and completed the 5K โ€“ a fantastic achievement and one she should be incredibly proud of! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
Events like this remind us of the very best of community life. A huge thank you to M.B. McGrady & Co. for their sponsorship, the organisers who work tirelessly behind the scenes, the marshals who keep everyone safe, the runners who push themselves to the limit, and the supporters who line the streets offering encouragement every step of the way.
At a time when headlines can sometimes focus on division and unrest, it is heartening to see people coming together in such a positive way โ€“ united by sport, community pride, and a shared desire to support one another. These are the moments that show the true character of our towns and villages.
Go Downpatrick โ€“ a little town with the biggest heart. โค๏ธ
Well done to everyone involved tonight. Whether you ran, marshalled, organised, sponsored, cheered from the sidelines or simply came along to support, you helped make this another fantastic community event.

๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ After all the different types of work taking place over the past few weeks, you may have been forgiven for thinking we had stopped painting here at LCCL & Pop Up Art... but you would be very wrong! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Between our **From Old to Gold Reduce Reuse Week**, the **Queen's University-led VR Recovery Pilot**, **Volunteer Week**, counselling sessions, advice services, hot lunches, housing support and planning future events, our creative workshop has continued to be a hive of activity.

And here are just a few of the beautiful pieces recently completed and now available for sale in our Social Enterprise Shop.

โœจ First up is this **pretty-as-a-picture decorative shelf unit**, lovingly completed in our workshop. We think you'll agree it would be an asset to any room lucky enough to have it.

๐Ÿ’— Next is this **Pretty in Pink Blanket Box**, beautifully decorated by **Faiza** and finished with a soft wax coating. Ready and waiting to store all of your treasured belongings while adding a touch of elegance to your home.

๐Ÿก Finally, we have this lovely **tall storage unit**, decorated by **Linda** as her very first project. Warm, welcoming and practical, it is sure to bring character and charm to any home.

So many people. So much talent.

We are truly blessed to have had another incredibly busy few weeks, welcoming new members and, on some days, struggling to find enough seats for everyone!

Perhaps it's the craic, the warmth, the friendships, the lunches, the counselling, the support, the creativity or simply the genuine welcome everyone receives when they walk through our doors. Whatever it is, it continues to bring out the very best in people.

Well done everyone. You are all a credit to yourselves and a tremendous asset to Life Change Changes Lives and Pop Up Art. We are very proud of each and every one of you. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒŸ **Volunteer Week may be over, but we're continuing to celebrate the amazing people who make LCCL what it is!** ๐ŸŒŸ

Our second volunteer spotlight today is on our very own **Sammy McConnell**.

Sammy is employed by LCCL for 12 hours per week through the **Workable (NI) JobStart Scheme** in partnership with Mencap. The thing is, Sammy enjoys his days here so much that he doesn't stop there โ€” he also comes in on Fridays to volunteer his time with us!

Anyone who knows Sammy will know what an asset he is to our organisation. He is kind, attentive, hardworking and always takes pride in every task he undertakes. Whether helping behind the scenes, supporting activities or carrying out practical jobs, Sammy always does an amazing job and approaches everything with enthusiasm and a smile.

When we asked Sammy why he volunteers with LCCL, his answer was short and sweet:

**"I just enjoy the craic. It's good fun here."**

What more can we ask for? ๐Ÿ˜Š

We are delighted that our volunteers enjoy being here as much as we enjoy having them on board. Creating a place where people feel welcomed, valued and part of something bigger is exactly what LCCL is all about.

Today we wanted to give Sammy a special mention because he is off to a formal at the beautiful **Slieve Donard Hotel**. We are all eagerly awaiting photographs of him suited and booted, looking his very best! ๐Ÿคตโœจ

Sammy, we hope you have a fantastic evening, make lots of memories, enjoy every minute and dance the night away. We can't wait to hear all about it when you're back next week.

Thank you for everything you do for LCCL and Pop Up Art. We are very lucky to have you as part of our team. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒŸ Volunteer Week may be over, but our volunteers certainly haven't stopped! ๐ŸŒŸ

Today we are delighted to shine a spotlight on Suzanne Trainor, one of our fantastic charity shop volunteers here at Life Change Changes Lives & Pop Up Art.

Suzanne brings so much more than helping hands. She brings structure, laughter, organisation and is a wonderful ambassador for everything we do. As well as volunteering regularly in the shop, Suzanne also works tirelessly throughout the year raising much-needed funds to support our charity and services.

When we asked Suzanne why she volunteers with LCCL, she said:

"Initially I came here to support family and a charity which does wonderful things for mental health in the community. It is my therapy here. I enjoy meeting new and returning customers and helping organise and display the stock. I get great satisfaction from seeing the shop run well and bring in funds to the organisation."

Suzanne's commitment, positivity and generosity of spirit are appreciated more than she knows. Whether she's sorting stock, welcoming customers, fundraising or simply bringing a smile to someone's day, she plays a huge part in making LCCL the warm and welcoming place that it is.

We are absolutely delighted to have Suzanne as part of the LCCL family.

As we often tell our participants, this place is a bit like the Hotel California โ€” you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave! ๐Ÿ˜„

Thankfully, volunteers like Suzanne don't seem to want to!

Thank you, Suzanne, for everything you do. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ”ฅ Did You Know? You Don't Need To Be An NIHE Tenant To Join The Oil Savings Network ๐Ÿ”ฅ

This week we delivered a Fuel Poverty Awareness Workshop as part of our tenancy sustainment work and one of the biggest surprises for participants was learning that the NI Housing Executive Oil Savings Network is open to everyone, not just Housing Executive tenants.

With many households using oil to heat their homes, summer can actually be one of the best times to start planning for winter.

The workshop explored:

โœ… How oil prices can change throughout the year
โœ… Why global events can affect local heating costs
โœ… Simple ways to reduce fuel poverty
โœ… How the NIHE Oil Savings Network works

We were delighted that **five participants requested support to register with the scheme** following the workshop.

If you heat your home with oil and would like more information about the Oil Savings Network, budgeting support, fuel poverty advice or tenancy support, please get in touch.

Sometimes a small action today can prevent a much bigger worry when winter arrives.
