Mainstay DRP

Mainstay DRP We focus on ability not disability, we want to enhance the lives of the people we support.

Mainstay DRP—Background

Downe Residential Project was established as a charity in 1990 by a group of committed parents and carers whose aim was to provide and develop a range of quality care and support services for people with a learning disability and also for their families and carers. The Project’s inception was a direct response to the lack of appropriate facilities in the area for people wi

th severe learning disabilities, challenging behaviour or autism. In November 2010 the Project changed its name to Mainstay DRP, to reflect both its expansion in respect of the type of service delivered, now providing more than residential but also supported housing, day-care, respite and vocational training services, but also the fact that services were increasingly being provided to people from outside the Down District. The principal aims of Mainstay DRP are identified in its Mission Statement:

· To enable people with learning difficulties to live in a range of community settings which best suit their needs
· To facilitate carers and relations in their caring role.
· To provide consumer led responsive, quality services.

From beach walks to music therapy, it's been a week spent doing the things that matter most 💙

Darryl and Kevin enjoyed getting out for some fresh air and plenty of steps while taking in the beautiful views at Minerstown Beach 🌊👣

Darryl also enjoyed a browse around a jumble sale in aid of Cats Protection 🐱, taking his time to browse the tables and see what caught his eye.

Jamie headed out for a coffee at McGreevy's Café ☕✨

Michael and Sean enjoyed a calming aromatherapy session 🌿, while Sean shared some lovely moments through music therapy 🎵.

From beach walks and coffee outings to music and sensory activities, it's been a week filled with smiles, shared moments, and doing the things each person enjoys most 💙

Lewis recently enjoyed a fantastic stay with Short Breaks! 🌟

He explored the garden, visited Inch Abbey for a walk and trip out, and had lots of fun playing in the sand at the beach. 🏖️🌿

Back at Short Breaks, Lewis spent time building, creating, and completing building block towers in the recreation room. 🧩✨

Helping young people create happy memories, try new activities, and enjoy their break is at the heart of what we do. 💙

Sunshine and amazing animals… the perfect recipe for smiles 🦭☀️✨

Joanne, Martina, and Hollie kicked things off with coffee in the sun before heading to Exploris Aquarium 🌊🐧 where they loved the playful penguins, curious seals, and vibrant sea life.

Darryl and Kevin enjoyed a sunny morning at Mountpanther Farm Park 🦙🌿 meeting goats, donkeys, and llamas…making the most of the fresh air and fun 🐐☀️ Finished perfectly with chips and cool drinks in the sunshine.

Happy Monday!
In May, we celebrated confidence, opportunity, and the power of community support.

From Silent Cuts’ first training group building new skills and independence, to Anthony Reco's skydive fundraiser helping make supported salon experiences more accessible, these stories highlight the real impact that encouragement and understanding can have.

Thank you for being part of the Mainstay DRP community.

💜 THANK YOU 💜

Because of your kindness and generosity, an amazing £285 was donated to our Silent Cuts Pay It Forward Fund in April.

These donations help children and adults access sensory-aware hair appointments, regardless of their ability to pay — creating calm, supported and welcoming experiences for everyone who visits us.

Your support helps fund:
✨ Familiarisation visits
✨ One-to-one supported appointments
✨ Extra time for regular visits

Together, we are helping make every appointment feel safe, comfortable and inclusive.

Thank you for helping us continue this important work. 💚💙
