Our thoughts and prayers are with Dan and his extended family at this sad time 😞

Died peacefully on 3rd September 2026 at the Downe hospital with his family in attendance.

Much loved husband of the late Colette & devoted father to Richard (Mandy), Frank, Elizabeth (Brian), Dan (Celeste), Nora (Michael) , John (Donna) and Colm (Claire). Much loved grandfather to Emilie, Katie, Cameron, Aoife, Alex , Matthew, Danny, Olivia, Manus, Samuel & Lucie, great grandfather to Oscàir & Aílbe.

Funeral from his late residence 7 Kilbride Road Downpatrick on Sunday 6th September at 12.00 noon for 12.30 pm Requiem Mass in Saint Patrick’s Chapel Downpatrick and burial afterwards in Struell Cemetery

Friends are welcome to call at Joe’s home from Thursday 6.00pm and all day Friday and Saturday until 7pm.

Saint Padre Pio pray for him.

GMD recent recruitment exercise

We are delighted to introduce you to our newest staff team member Maya, who recently commenced part-time employment with GMD as our Senior Telephone Carer 🤗👏

Prior to her employment, Maya was actively volunteering with GMD (having previously volunteered many years ago), we wish Maya well in her new role and she looks forward to chatting with all our wonderful clients & supporting our volunteers in their role 😎🤗👏

We record our thanks to Orla from Supporting Communities and our GMD Chairperson Patricia, for assisting with the recruitment exercise!!

Wonderful event 🤗😎👏

A huge thank you to Aiden Milligan (Splinter) for organising Splinter's Bash at The Mill at Ballydugan and raising an incredible amount in support of Life Change Changes Lives (LCCL) and Good Morning Down.

A heartfelt thank you also goes to the amazing line-up of musicians and performers who generously gave their time and talent to entertain the crowd throughout the event. Your support made the day truly special.

Finally, thank you to everyone who came along, bought tickets, donated, sang, danced and helped create such a fantastic atmosphere. Community events like this remind us what can be achieved when people come together for a common purpose.

From all of us at LCCL and Good Morning Down, thank you for your kindness, generosity and continued support. It will make a real difference to the lives of people in our community.

Digital Inclusion Action Plan

The Department of Finance recently received funding to help address device poverty and to support community-led digital inclusion projects within NI, as an eligible VCSE organisation - Good Morning Down’s application was successful and we qualified for a free HP Laptop!!

Dan collected the laptop this afternoon from Dfi officer Caroline . We acknowledge and record our appreciation to the Department for this fabulous piece of IT 🤗😎👍

Today we welcomed another new volunteer into our charity.. a younger chap called Connor🤗😎, he made his first calls this morning and has already demonstrated his wonderful ability to connect with our fabulous clients, Connor is our youngest volunteer ever.. we all wish him well on volunteering with GMD 😎

MANAGING THE HEAT

I hope everyone is enjoying this glorious spell of weather, please see below advice below from the Public Health Agency and Cancer Focus:

Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen (and reapply every 2 hours)
Wear a hat and sunglasses
Seek shade during peak UV hours (11am-3pm)
Stay hydrated (even when you don’t feel thirsty)
Stay cool

Prolonged heat poses a particular risk to older people, young people and those with heart and lung conditions.

Look after yourself and your loved ones, and check up on neighbours who may be less able to look after themselves.
