Today CDRCN supported Portaferry Community Collective to begin their reminiscence workshops to record local memories of Joseph Tomelty. This project is a forerunner to the planned Joesph Tomelty Festival to be held from 5th to 7th March 2027.

What we loved about this on International Rural Women Day, is not only that women show up to lead, in this case Allison Murphy from PAST but that mostly women engaged to contribute to a future publication of Portaferry Memories of Joseph Tomelty, an actor, novelist and Playright, creator of BBC NI radio drama The McCooeys, originally from Portaferry. We thank all those women (and men) who came along today.

PCC obtained funding for this project from Sir George Earle Benevolent Fund through Community Foundation NI and thank you to them.

Today on International Day of Rural Women, CDRCN would like to celebrate and thank all those amazing Rural Women in our communities who step up and engage to make change happen for the people in their areas. Your passion and initiative is an inspiration to us all and we are so privileged to find so many women who volunteer for their community in both small and big ways, you have our utmost respect and appreciation for all that you do.
Finally we couldn't finish off without paying tribute to our fantastic female staff and board members, thank you all.

Crossroads to Support – Crossmaglen

County Down Rural Community Network rural team engaged with community members and other support organisations at the *Crossroads to Support* event at Crossmaglen Community Centre yesterday.

It was an opportunity for local people to connect with a range of organisations providing services and support, including County Down Rural Community Network, the Housing Executive, Supporting Communities and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and to learn more about the advice and support available around housing, benefits, finances, energy saving and home safety.

It was great to catch up with Crossmaglen Community Association who are part of the CDRCN Access to Resilience programme, and hear about the success of their summer event and plans for Halloween.

A big thank you to Crossmaglen Community Association for organising such a worthwhile event and bringing everyone together.

The CDRCN Access to Resilience programme is funded by Dormant Assets NI, delivered by The National Lottery Community Fund.

It has been a busy week so far for the Festival of Hope organised by the Ballynahinch Su***de Prevention Task Group.
Montalto Estate parkrun took place last Saturday,
The Irish Football Association Mental Health training last night.
There was a brilliant turn out for the drop in taster sessions at Saintfield Men's Shed & Ballynahinch Mens Shed
Next up is Killyleagh and District Men’s Shed drop in tomorrow and Coffee Music & Craic in Ballynahinch.
Our final day takes place on World Mental Health Day Saturday 10th October at Ballynahinch Community Centre with the brilliant Hinch Harmony launching the Walk of Hope, preloved sale, info tables and children's entertainment.
We hope to see you there!
