As our newest recruits complete their first week at 1018 Squadron, it is a great opportunity to reflect on the success and achievements of our previous intake as they completed their first months as RAF Air Cadets.
Since joining the Squadron in October, the cadets have taken part in a wide range of activities and opportunities designed to introduce them to life within the RAFAC. Over the course of their initial training period, the intake developed skills in drill, leadership, radio communications, uniform preparation and teamwork, whilst also learning more about the RAF and the opportunities available to them within the organisation.
Since completing their initial training, members of the intake have already gone on to represent 1018 across a variety of activities and events including attending a variety of training weekends both on and off the Squadron, supporting community events, taking part in the Squadron’s annual dinner, and more. During the Remembrance period, members of the intake assisted with local poppy collections and joined the Squadron in representing 1018 within the local community during the town’s Remembrance parade. One member of the intake, Cdt Bolton, represented 1018 at the Wing Swimming Competition, and Cdt Benson attended a regional trip to London for a national International Women’s Day event alongside one of the Squadron’s senior cadets.
Many of the cadets have already achieved success in a number of areas, earning qualifications and badges including Blue and Bronze Space, Blue Radio, Blue Leadership, Blue and Bronze First Aid, and Blue Road Marching. Cdt Bolton also took home the Cofield trophy at the end of last year for Best Newcomer. A number of the intake have also already signed up for further courses and camps taking place throughout the remainder of the year.
The intake has shown excellent enthusiasm, commitment and teamwork throughout their first months on the Squadron, and it has been fantastic to see the confidence and friendships developed during that time. They should all be extremely proud of what they have achieved so far and we look forward to seeing them continue to progress throughout their cadet careers.
