⭐ It's Volunteers' Week, and we'd like to take the opportunity to say a great big THANK YOU to all of our volunteers for the brilliant contributions you make throughout the year.

⭐ From the newly restored Maison Dieu to the beautiful Kearsney Parks, our volunteers work across our various sites and venues, whether that’s helping to keep them looking their best, working with the community at events, digitally archiving old photos or protecting our natural spaces.

⭐ Do you have some spare time? We are inviting anyone with an interest in the district –in its heritage, environment or our tourist attractions – to get involved in volunteering. There’s plenty of variety depending on your interests.

We had well over 100 satisfied visitors at the Dover History Showcase on Saturday, organised by the Friends of the Maison Dieu.

Many people stayed for a couple of hours, poring over maps, photographs and documents, enjoying creative activities, special Victorian gaol tours and refreshments.

A huge thank you to all our partners and our dedicated team of Maison Dieu Ambassador volunteers — your support makes events like this possible.

The Friends of the Maison Dieu invite you to Dover's History Showcase on Saturday 30 May, any time between 11am to 3pm, to celebrate the rich heritage of Dover and East Kent. Entry is FREE.

You'll have the opportunity to:
• Investigate local heritage and some fascinating stories
• Meet historians, curators, artists and educators
• Engage with artefacts, photos, maps and archival documents
• Join heritage tours and talks, including to the Victorian gaol and nearby heritage sites
• Explore the Maison Dieu, chat to our Ambassadors and find out about its recent transformation
• Take part in creative activities inspired by local history
• Join a new club or society
• Enjoy a cup of tea, coffee and refreshments

By day he’s the vicar of Wye… by night he’s a stand up comedian with a wicked sense of humour. Ravi Holy has been a So You Think You’re Funny? semi finalist, winner of the Canterbury Festival comedy competition, and was crowned “Funniest Vicar” by the Inbetweeners after performing live on The One Show. A truly unique act.

Over 2,000 people supported our awe-inspiring Stone Masonry Festival this weekend.

Well done to all our incredible stonemasons from England and France who worked so hard to produce wonderful carvings of animals inspired by the Maison Dieu.

Adam Bilaut, from Paris, won the Maison Dieu's special stonemasons' vote for his magnificent lion, griffin-dragon design.

Thomas Kenrick, from Somerset, won the public vote with his beautiful dragon design, inspired by an ornamental gargoyle.

A huge thank you to all our stonemasons, to Carrie Horwood from Cat's Eye Carving for helping to organise this popular event and to The National Lottery Heritage Fund and lottery players for their generous support.

The carvings will be on display at the Maison Dieu shortly. Watch this space!
