Well the TT might be over but the football has just started! We're really pleased to be collaborating with the Isle of Man Football Association on this year's Millennium Primary Football Tournament which will take on a 'World Cup' theme. Each school participating in the tournament will be representing a country that has qualified for the FIFA World Cup and they are tasked with getting to know what life is like there. Does everyone (including girls) play football there? Can ordinary people afford to go to the World Cup - and would they be allowed to travel?! How might they celebrate if they win? So many things to find out! Each school has been provided with a resource pack, teacher's notes and a data chart. We are hoping they will wow us with the information they learn and bring a poster on their country to the tournament. Happy global learning everyone!

Just before TT takes over, we are still looking for a few more acts for the Global Village on Tynwald Day. Can you sing, play music or perform a dance from another culture? Then get in touch for a slot on the stage!

We used our Fairtrade Primary Conference last week to talk to our young students about the power of hope and how hope can lead us to take positive action on things we think are wrong or can be improved. In acknowledgement of week, we set up our own "Wall of Hope" and invited the students to write a hope of their own. Their messages covered everything from hoping those who are starving get enough to eat, everybody is treated fairly, everyone is able to go to school, no pollution, clean water and world peace to a trip to Japan to see what it's like and being able to collect every Pokeman card!

What a fantastic time we had at our Fairtrade Primary Conference on Friday! The students were amazing - really engaged with all our workshops which included a debate in the Tynwald Chamber, learning about chocolate, looking at Fairtrade around the world and deciding how to spend the Fairtrade Premium in a tea co-operative (it wasn't easy!!) There were some great reflections on fairness and how different other people's lives can be to ours. Thanks to all the helpers who led the workshops and who contributed to making the day run so smoothly. Here are a couple of pictures from the day but really we were too busy to capture it all!

Heads up to other small charities operating on the Isle of Man - here's your chance to flag up any issues you are experiencing with current legislation and what you feel is workable and proportionate regulation in the future. The consultation is open until 21st June.

Consultation launched on the future regulation of charities

The Attorney General’s Chambers has launched a public consultation on the regulatory framework for charities in the Isle of Man.

This consultation is part of the Government’s response to the recommendations of the Post‑Legislative Scrutiny Committee, which reviewed how the Charities Registration and Regulation Act 2019 is working in practice.

Charities play an important role in Island life, supporting communities locally and internationally. The consultation seeks practical views from charities, trustees, professionals and members of the public on how the current system can be improved to ensure it remains effective, proportionate and easy to operate, whilst managing the risk of charitable organisations who operate on the Island.

In particular, the consultation asks for feedback on:
🔹Whether electronic filing is working in practice and any legislative change required
🔹Whether smaller charities should be subject to different registration or regulatory requirements
🔹What exemptions should apply to religious or ecclesiastical charities
🔹whether accounting and reporting requirements should be more flexible, including where a charity exceeds current thresholds due to a one‑off donation

The aim is to ensure that the framework supports charities and their trustees to carry out their work and remains proportionate to the size and nature of each charity, acknowledging the risk of charity activity in the Island.

The Attorney General’s Chambers encourages all stakeholders to respond, particularly those with direct experience of running or supporting a charity, or those involved with advising or fundraising.

📅 The consultation is open until Sunday 21 June 2026: https://ow.ly/xtt950YYOMV

The latest round of the Isle of Man Government's International Development Small Grant scheme is now open for applications. This is funding for organisations who are delivering humanitarian aid projects overseas, that meet the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and are usually in countries that are marked as low in the UN's Human Development Index. Follow the link for more details.

Applications are open for International Development Small Grants scheme

Charities registered in the Isle of Man are invited to apply for the International Development Small Grants scheme which encourages local organisations to create a positive international impact.

The funding supports international development projects in vulnerable communities around the world. Projects must align with the Government’s longstanding International Development objectives, as agreed by the Council of Ministers, and support at least one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

All applications must be emailed to [email protected] by midnight on Friday 5 June 2026. Charities interested in applying can contact [email protected]

A final post on this year's One World Charity Challenge to thank everyone who helps us bring the programme together. That's the funders, the wonderful school link teachers and helpers who keep the students on course throughout the year, AFD Software for all the technical help and the venue for the finals, the judges both at the in-school heats and the finals (what a difficult job they have!), the volunteers at the events, dkphotographyiom for the images and also, of course, all the charities that support the students during their six-month project. Thank you all - and we're looking forward to doing it all again next year when we celebrate the 20th anniversary!
