This weekend saw the summer session of the Dorset v Hampshire & Isle of Wight Masonic Clay Pigeon Shoot, held as usual at the Purbeck Shooting School, close to the famous Bovington Tank Museum! 🎯🏆

Over 50 shooters arrived bright and early to enjoy a complimentary bacon roll 🥓 and the chance to win some fantastic raffle prizes generously donated by supporters. 🎁

Once the teams were organised, cartridges collected, and safety briefings completed, the competition got underway across six challenging stands in perfect conditions and glorious sunshine. ☀️

Events like this highlight one of the great benefits of Freemasonry in the UK 🇬🇧🔷—bringing people together through friendship, shared experiences, and enjoyable social activities. Whether you're a seasoned shooter or trying something completely new, these events create lasting memories, strengthen friendships, and support worthy causes. 🤝😊

At the end of the day, an impressive £570 was raised for The Freemasons' Charity ❤️👏, while Hampshire (once again! 😄) retained the trophy with an average score of 37.14, compared to Dorset's 31.29. 🏅🏆

A special mention goes to the 18 first-time shooters who took part for the very first time. 🎯 Many are already looking forward to signing up for the next event, which takes place on 5th December 2026! 📅

Kirsty Rafferty, the Community Fund Raiser for the MYTIME Young Carers charity, joined our Worshipful Master, W.Bro Martin Daniel, Senior Warden Bro Paul Barrett and Charity Steward W.Bro Keith Lewis to acknowledge the donation made by our lodge to this excellent charity which fights for young carers across the UK aged between 5-25 years, to ensure they receive the opportunities, friendship, and support they deserve.

Via Lucis Lodge was well represented at the Dorset vs Hants & IoW Summer Clay Shoot on 18th July, which Hants & IoW won. We can take no credit as we were all beginners and did not participate in the competition, instead shooting under the watchful eyes of our fantastic instructor, Adrian and our experienced sharp shooting Master, W.Bro Martin Daniel. We all had a great time and owe many thanks to the organiser W.Bro Mike "The Gun" Collins and his helpers who ran the event to raise money for the Masonic Charitable Foundation (and yes, of course there was a raffle afterwards😂).
