Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face, and recognise the vital contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

🫶 For people caring for someone on home artificial nutrition (HAN), caring can include managing feeds, equipment, routines, appointments, and the emotional ups and downs that come with supporting a loved one every day.

🫶 This week is also a chance to say clearly: unpaid carers are not alone, and their dedication, patience, and strength matter. We want to recognise and thank unpaid carers across the HAN community for the compassion, skill, and commitment they show every day, often behind the scenes. Carers Week also helps people who may not yet identify themselves as carers to recognise their role and access the understanding, connection, and support they deserve but may be difficult to access.

💜 Unpaid carers wellbeing matters too. Taking time to rest, ask for help, and access support is not selfish – it is an important part of caring, access to support should be easier to access.

✨ Volunteers’ Week – a chance to say ‘thank you’ to the wonderful PINNT volunteers who give their time, energy and understanding to support others ✨

Our volunteers know first-hand the challenges that can come with living with health needs and artificial feeding. They choose to be there for others facing similar situations, helping and supporting people as they adjust and adapt to a new way of eating and drinking.

That generosity, empathy and willingness to help make such a difference. Whether it’s offering reassurance, sharing experience, or simply helping someone feel less alone, our volunteers bring kindness and hope to the PINNT community every day.

World Earth Day: sustaining the planet, sustaining life 🌎🏡✅

Today on World Earth Day, we’re reflecting on how Home Artificial Nutrition (HAN) sustains life but the ancillaries related to these treatments need to be considered to sustain the planet♻️🏠

We are sharing our follow-up report that explores clinical and non-clinical waste in home nutrition support. While safety and quality must always come first, reducing non-essential waste is a fundamental part of making care more sustainable.

Small steps can add up:

✅ Review what’s used at home and identify items that are routinely opened but not needed.
✅ Order and deliver supplies in a way that helps avoid overstocking and unnecessary disposal (where possible).
✅ Clear guidance on how to separate and dispose of waste correctly to support recycling and safe handling.
✅ A more unified recycling policy across all councils, so patients and carers have consistent, practical guidance wherever they live.

Let’s keep the conversation going: how are 'we' reducing unnecessary waste in home care while keeping patients safe?

Today we recognise Rare Disease Day!

🟩 3.5 million people in the UK live with a rare condition
🟦 1 in 17 people are affected by a rare condition at some point in their lives
🟪 Only 1 in 20 rare condition have an approved treatment or medicine to help
🟩 1 in 4 people wait at least three years for a rare condition diagnosis
🟦 EQUITY for people living with rare conditions is equitable access to diagnosis, treatment, health, social care and opportunity
🟪 300 million people worldwide live with a rare condition

Thousands of people with rare conditions rely on artificial feeding - such as enteral tube feeding or intravenous nutrition and hydration - either temporarily or throughout their lives to receive the essential nourishment and fluids they need.

Tube Feeding Awareness Week

Today we once again shine a light on Rataporn's story about her son Nico.

🟣 Enteral Tube Feeding can be life-saving and help prevent malnutrition
🟣 Enteral Tube Feeding can give people a better quality of life and help them manage the symptoms of the medical condition(s)
🟣There are prescribed formulas for feeding tubes as well as people blending real food - a blended diet.
🟣 People sometime combine prescribed formulas with a blended diet.

Tube Feeding Awareness Week

We shared Errol's story during HAN Week 2025 - delighted to shine a light on his story once again during Tube Feeding Awareness Week.

Fabulous photo - his wife has her meal and Errol has his 'enteral' meal at the same time 💜
