The next meeting of Dormans Evening WI will be on Thursday 12th February when Gill Thompson, author of "The Oceans Between Us", "The Child on Platform One" and other books inspired by true wartime events will be talking about the Child Migrant Programme during the '40s and '50s when children were deported to Australia, sometimes without their families' knowledge. This promises to be an informative and emotional talk.
WI is for all women of voting age. Dormans Evening WI invites visitors to their meetings at no charge, with the guarantee of a friendly welcome.
They hold a meeting on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30 pm in The Parish Room, Dormansland, RH7 6RA. The meeting usually starts with a speaker, followed by refreshments and information about other events, such as theatre trips and outings.
In addition, they have a Mah-Jong club, a Rummikub Club, a Walking Group, a Film & Theatre Club, two Book Clubs and a Coffee Club. They are planning to hold some craft workshops over the coming year.
The WI is based on friendship and education. It is well-known for campaigning on matters of importance to women throughout the country. Their current campaigns include increasing training and delivery of CPR within the community, improving dental health provision, improving water quality in British rivers, and improving understanding of autism and ADHD in women and girls.
Please pop along to a WI meeting to see for yourself what it is all about.
